Dream Boats: Uniesse MY 66

From Boats by Motor 2003, no. 9, Oct. pp. 170-175.

All-Italian design and water lines signed by none other than Fred Hudson, for this 20-meter motor yacht for fabulous cruising.

Once again the design synergy of Unisse Marine and Fred Hudson has proven to be a winner. In fact, the new Uniesse 66, like the rest of the Bergamo-based shipyard’s entire range, can be really proud of its water lines signed by one of the best-known American architects, but also of its design and interiors, which, the result of the shipyard’s technical study, express the search for detail and the elegance of Italian design at its best. Increasingly strong in the creation of important motor yachts, then, the Uniesse brand offers a boat destined to satisfy even the most demanding owners. That is, those who, loving the sea, wish to spend their free time sailing in total relaxation, on a safe and reliable boat, being able to count on great comfort, two crew and maximum privacy for themselves and their guests. Articulated on three decks, theUniesse 66 shows particularly sleek and elegant lines, emphasized by the blue hull that classily matches the ivory color of the deck that highlights the perfect gelcoat workmanship.

Located in the center of the hull, the master cabin takes advantage of the maximum width, offering large spaces and maximum comfort.

Guided by feelings

From the cockpit, which is covered with warm teak, you enter directly into the spacious living area. Here you are greeted first of all by a very pleasant “soft” feeling, your feet in fact sinking on a very soft carpet resting on a special dunnage cover that amplifies its softness. Instead, eyes immediately fall on the harmonious and elegant play of curves that characterizes furniture and sofas. At a slightly higher level, just to distinguish the rooms without resorting to visual barriers, here is the dining area separated from the kitchen by a bar counter obviously made of curves. Like all the furniture, bulkheads and doors, the latter is made of elegant mirror-polished cherry wood that contrasts gracefully with the anthracite top made of fine Botticino marble. Cool to the touch but warm in its understated elegance, Botticino marble also reigns on the kitchen countertops and floor, as well as, in light tones, on the floors and countertops of the bathrooms, which sport accessories (washbasins, bidets and toilets) in snow-white ceramic and teak carabottiniums at the showers. Also pleasing to the eye are the ceilings of the upper deck and VIP staterooms, where the soft ivory color of the leather is delicately contrasted by cherry wood inserts, creating a pleasant movement. The owner’s cabin, arranged amidships, takes advantage of the entire beam and enjoys sea views on either side of the large central bed. In the cabin, one can choose to watch TV-obviously, the TV can only be liquid crystal television-listen to music or read a book, either lying on the bed or comfortably seated on the beautiful leather sofa leaning against the port broadside. Madame also has at her complete disposal a “vanity” desk with mirror and drawers, served by a comfortable leather pouff, for applying makeup and beautifying herself.

From top left clockwise: the elegant helm station; the cockpit, which converts to a magnificent dining area when needed; the comfortable flying bridge; and the aft stairs leading from the cockpit to the small beach.

Cruising

Even for those who pay more attention to technical details, theUniesse 66 holds interesting aspects. In the spacious engine room, two Man or Caterpillar engines, of 1050 or 1400 horsepower each, respectively, find a place with ease, capable of propelling this 20.40-meter vessel, which weighs an impressive 42500 kg, up to 32-35 knots. Designed for long-distance cruising, this motor yacht can count on a fuel reserve of as much as 4800 liters, providing good cruising range. The freshwater reserve, on the other hand, is 1200 liters; in addition, once at the dock you can use the direct intake that by-passes the tanks. Below the cockpit, in a neat room are grouped the main systems, among them we highlight: the 19 kW generator, which provides the entire boat with 220 V power and the charging of the 11 on-board batteries, and the 60000 BTU air conditioning units with reversible hot/cold cycle.
