Winning theEnvironmental Initiative award-dedicated to the boat with the most sustainable and innovative solutions-is no trivial achievement. Every shipyard has understood and is trying to interpret the eco-sustainable wave that is revolutionizing the motor world from automotive to boats. Against this backdrop, Made in Italy shines once again with Amer Yachts ‘ brand new Amer 94 triumphing at METS in Amsterdam, the leading international trade show for operators of components and accessories in yachting.
How does one become “eco-luxurious”?
Amer Yacht’s route crossed Volvo Penta for the creation of the new Amer 94 Twin, and we experienced the results firsthand. First, the weight of the boat was reduced as much as possible because, in a nutshell, the less weight, the less power needed to move it. The result is clear: less gasoline burned. How do you reduce weight?
- Use of cork instead of teak on the deck,
- Carbon also in interior furnishings such as bathroom fixtures
- 3D printed control boards with very lightweight plastics (ABS)
Another important factor in terms of sustainability is the use of a special adhesive film instead of traditional anti-vegetative, which, due to its 4-5 year lifespan, also avoids annual treatment costs. At this point came the contribution of Volvo, which installed a pair of Volvo Penta D13-IPS 1350 propulsion engines aboard the Amer 94 Twin. IPS technology enabled further lowers power consumption while maintaining high performance. But let’s look at some data from our test:
Eco-luxury, a new concept of yachting
Data in hand, it is evident that, with due proportion also in relation to the boat, it is possible to consume less. Year by year the importance will increase of having an increasingly green propulsion that does not go to the detriment of comfort and performance that a luxury unit requires. We wait for now, promoting the first and very important steps of the pioneers of eco-luxury, the new conception of comfortable, high-performance, and above all, sustainable yachting!
