Marlin 24 X, here are the secrets of its hull and interaction with tubulars, for a rib that is modern in style but has the soul of a true “airboat.”
The occasion was the latest edition of the Lake Maggiore Boat Show in Marina di Verbella: we boarded, or rather climbed aboard the
Marlin
24 X
, one of the Luisago shipyard’s best sellers. It is a boat, which was born a couple of years ago and has emerged on the market for its remarkable sailing qualities. However, the Lombard fair was an opportunity to have Stefano Selva explain not only the new features of its latest evolution, the Model Year 2024, but also to learn more about the technical characteristics of this seven-footer.
“The thing that stands out most is obviously the central roll cage, with T-top, above the console. It is a very popular solution – Selva tells us-it then gives the boat a very sporty, very marine character to the boat, and is therefore in line with the philosophy and performance of the project.”
Marlin 24 X
Yes, because Marlin 24 X is an inflatable boat that is not only fast(42/43 knots maximum, 30/32 cruising with the 225 V6 Mercury aft, in the version on display at the show), but above all designed to sail well, in all conditions.
“Marlin 24 X has great roominess and livability, it is 6.60 m long in homologation, but the interior width is an impressive 180 cm. The equipment of accessories, already basic, as per our tradition is very rich. However, it can also count on a one-step hull and tubular design that make it a true dinghy“.
Interesting, can you tell us about it in detail? “Our goal is first of all to repurpose tubulars as true useful elements for navigation, not mere fenders. There are five independent chambers, and with varying diameters: 50 at the bow, 58 at the stern – Selva always tells us – The profile is not constant but rises going toward the bow. This means having great static stability when the boat is stationary, and yet also great protection from waves and splashes when sailing, fast and with wave“.
All this is now a trademark for you: “Yes absolutely, we patented it in ’93 and as long as the exclusivity that came with it lasted we were the only ones offering them. Now many people are doing it…”
Instead, let’s talk about the
hull
: “We have a single step, typically this solution involves taking it as far back as possible, to try to get as much hull surface area out of the water as possible, goal maximum top speed. We actually chose to place it more in the center, where all the weights are also concentrated. A choice that involves having a hull always parallel to the water, less trim needs to be used. Everything simpler, everything safer“.
The Marlin 24X costs, base price excluding VAT, 52,300 euros.
