When you think of classic fishing, you don’t imagine 20-foot boats with 200 horsepower in the stern and electronics to scare a 50-foot yacht. What are we talking about? Of bass fishing, a fishing technique that comes from America and is having a lot of success here in our country as well. It is practiced in inland waters with small motor boats (electric or motor-powered) and the goal is to target black bass, the trout perch.

Bassmen and “pulled” race boats

The community of bassmen, that is, those who practice bass fishing, in addition to being constantly growing, is very young. Moments of fishing are of religious silence, abetted by an electric bow trolling motor to move without noise. But to get from one spot to the next, one sails at full speed.

For the more pulled, racing boats, we are talking boats of six meters and two hundred horsepower behind. These are the actual Bass Boats, boats that at first glance would seem to have been born for racing. And in fact for this fishery it is necessary to make very fast movements. When fishing, however, technique, experience and the ability to understand the situation come into play. A real challenge, dynamic, which is being enjoyed so much.

“There are competitions on a national and international scale,” Alessandro Villari, who is part of Suzuki Fishing and is a Lowrance ambassador, tells us. “In Italy it has a very high appeal among those who love inland spinning fishing. A lot of young people are practicing it and it is on the rise steadily. We have a lot of electronics on board because we mark spots, bottom, submerged obstacles, fish that are there. The fish we catch are hiding predators, so we have to be even better at finding them. Obviously the racing ones are boats optimized for that, but it’s fun with all kinds of boats.”
