Number one is the one built for him, Cataldo Aprea. If that name doesn’t ring a bell, here’s a link for you. The new Gozzo 42 (12.8 x 4.2 meters), Apreamare’s new release for 2027, is therefore launching with very high expectations. We tested it in Torre Annunziata, fresh off the launch. More than just a test, though, this boat makes you want to take a dip. After all, that’s its DNA: a large Mediterranean walkaround with the elegant lines that Marco Casali of Too Design has managed to give these modern Gozzi. Added to this is the naval architecture of Umberto Tagliavini, a true all-rounder in the world of motorboats, capable of designing everything from a 60-knot “missile” to a large displacement explorer. Let’s take a look at the most notable features of this new Apreamare and see how it handles.

Apreamare Gozzo 42
Outdoor living. That’s the motto of the new Gozzo 42, which reinterprets the classic Mediterranean layout in a versatile and modern way. There’s plenty of space aft, even though the Gozzo’s rounded shape doesn’t immediately suggest it.
Specifically, the cockpit is the heart of the boat: at the stern, there is a two-meter sun deck flanked by a large C-shaped sofa that can accommodate up to eight people, while at the bow, a second lounge area with a sun deck and facing seats creates a private space entirely dedicated to relaxation. On hot days, both areas can be shaded thanks to awnings attached to the hardtopand supported by lightweight carbon-fiber poles.
The contemporary design is also evident in the details. The sleek hardtop, designed to fully enclose the glass windshield, enhances protection while underway. The new, highly ergonomic console also stands out, complementing the hardtop and making a striking impression. Of course, this is an aesthetic detail, but it is also through these finishes that the attention to craftsmanship and the quality of the boats truly shine through.

Rounding out the picture are a fully customizable wet bar , a large aft deck of nearly six square meters with a tender lift and retractable swim ladder, as well as a whole range of technical features—such as the new air intakes integrated into the hull and the electrically operated engine compartment—designed to make life on board easier.
Interior: The cabins of this Gozzo 42
We’ve described it as a Mediterranean walkaround, but at 12 meters, the Torre Annunziata shipyard has managed to create a truly impressive interior. The master cabin is a large open space that, if necessary, can be completely separated from the living area to ensure greater privacy. The inclusion of full-height closets, numerous storage compartments, and large side windows is no accident.
If you’re planning a cruise, space is an absolute must, but an open, airy feel is also an important factor to consider. Since you’ll be spending long periods on board, it’s also important that the spaces have plenty of natural light—and the Apreamare 42 excels in this regard.
For those who want more sleeping space, a second cabin at the stern is available as an option, featuring two fairly wide single beds and built-in storage units along the bulkhead. Here, too, natural light plays a key role thanks to the new hull and deck windows.
Engine and How It Performs
Let’s now turn to the more technical aspects. This is a 12-meter planing gozzo that weighs 14.5 metric tons when fully loaded. During our test, there were nine of us on board with a full fuel tank (1,200 liters) and a full water tank (350 liters). In addition, there was everything the owner needed for a weekend getaway, including a rather well-stocked galley. In short, the boat was heavily loaded. Despite this, with two IPS 500 engines (2×435 cavalli), it proved to be quite agile both at takeoff and during maneuvers. The hull’s sturdiness and the quality of the hull shape were evident, even under conditions that weren’t particularly challenging. At full throttle, we reached a top speed of 28.2 knots and planed in about 13 seconds from a standstill. At a cruising speed of around 22 knots—which is already quite impressive—fuel consumption was 113 liters per hour in total.

It is worth noting that the shipyard offers the option of installing a traditional shaft drive system in place of the IPS system, using two Volvo Penta D6 engines rated at 380 cavalli each.
