Aquila Power Catamarans presented, as a European premiere, its new Aquila 42 at the Cannes Yachting Festival. A cruising motor catamaran, which can accommodate up to 24 people on board, and on which “mini” foils can be installed to help reduce fuel consumption and emissions. We came on board to see it for you.
All spaces at Aquila 42
Aquila 42 is an incredibly versatile catamaran with multiple configuration options from two to four cabins to meet the needs of any owner. The version shown at the Cannes Boat Show is the three-cabin version: one per hull plus the forward cabin.
Designed by catamaran expert VPLP Design, Aquila 42 offers three large outdoor entertainment spaces, including a fantastic hard-roofed flybridge with helm station, wraparound seating, dining table, and outdoor galley. This is complemented by a forward lounging area with pop-up sundecks, all easily accessible via wide walkways or a bow ladder connecting the flybridge with the very convenient sunbathing area. Finally at the stern, there is also a galley bar area that opens onto the cockpit, as well as a spacious little beach, with a crane for the tender and a ladder to climb up from the water. This area can also be used as a living area, perhaps for a sunset aperitif.
Interior
The living room, thanks to the large windows, is very bright and has a 360-degree view of the sea. There is also plenty of space for dining and relaxing sheltered inside and a kitchen with appliances quite similar to those you might have in a home. There is also an additional service cabin that can serve as a pantry.
The owner’s cabin, which is located in the port hull, enjoys even more of those spectacular views, with windows all along the hull, and is very spacious. There is also an office desk, should you need some privacy on board.
In the starboard hull, there is a guest cabin, with en-suite bathroom, while in the bow there is a third cabin, which can be used by the crew, with a somewhat reduced ceiling height but still comfortable and equipped with an en-suite bathroom.
Motorization
Aquila 42 is powered by two 230-hp Volvo Penta D4 engines as standard, or two optional 300-hp D4 engines. It can carry up to 24 guests and can accommodate eight people. If desired, the owner can choose to further improve the efficiency of this catamaran by installing the Aquila Hydro Glide Foil System™ (AHG) on board, “mini” foils that improve fuel economy by reducing the contact surface area of the hulls.
