Aquila 47 Molokai

It will make its overseas debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (Oct. 25-29, Florida), the newest powercat from Aquila Power Catamarans, the Aquila 47 Molokai, a high-end and versatile 15-meter, optimized for both fishing and comfort. It is, in short, a center console catamaran intended to offer offshore performance and seaworthiness while allowing for weekender use.

In terms of performance, thrust is provided by 2 or 4 outboards, for powers ranging from 1,200 to 1,600 horsepower while the two hulls feature a double-step design. The fisherman’s attitude, then, is not lacking, being complete with live bait tanks, refrigerated fish tanks and plenty of space for equipment and gear of all sorts. Optionally, it also provides for the installation of custom tuna towers.

Exterior

The look is all its own, typical of the brand and therefore strong with an important family feeling. The lines are sleek, the profile is almost that of a powerboat, but there are two hulls, enclosed by a large furnished forward deck and strong with a well-protected center console just behind. The two or four outboards do the rest of the trick, giving this catamaran a dynamic and sporty look.

The focus of the entire deck is to be found in the clear distinction between spaces. Forward, recessed on the deckhouse, are three large sundecks facing an additional full-beam sofa. This is the main lounge and relaxation area, complete with cup holders and finished cushions, but not without ample storage and rod holders.

Instead, the stern, with the entire cockpit, is the focus of the sporting activity, fishing, more specifically. The cockpit is large, smooth in movement and equipped with every necessary appliance. A central sofa facing aft dominates the spaces, served by a central coffee table with rod holders, elements also present on the aft portion of the hard top just above.

The bulwarks feature fold-down benches and padding, but the real focus here is the large pressurized tanks to keep bait alive, as well as the equally important cooled peaks to hold the larger catch for even long periods of time. There is also no shortage of sockets for electric reels, so as to encourage deep sea fishing as well.

Livewell tank (bait/live) 2x 160 liters 320 liters total
Fishing lockers (stern) 2x 189 liters 378 liters total
Fishing lockers (thermal insulated, central) 2x (240 + 625) liters 1930 liters total
Fishing lockers (bow) 2x 280 liters 560 liters

Amidships, the center console takes up much of the space, with a dashboard rich in technology and instrumentation. Behind it, to provide maximum safety, 7 wraparound seats accommodate guests, to make even high-speed travel or travel in less than optimal conditions safe. The hard top, on the other hand, is designed complete with reinforcements so that it can hold and accommodate any additional tuna towers.

Fishing aside, the brand’s new 47 also offers spaces for relaxation and comfort, present as well as forward, below deck. Indeed, to starboard of the console is access to the interior, where there is a central cabin complete with a queen-size bed and air conditioning. There is no shortage of private bathroom complete with shower.
