There is a new family of powerboats making their way into the motoring world. Boat or dinghy? A middle ground. The first born is the Awave 48, the debut of a range of walkarounds built by Thy shipyards that, from about 50 feet on this example, aims to go up to 70 feet, or around 21 meters.
Awave 48: boat or dinghy?
Maxi-dinghies are a phenomenon of recent years that has found admirers aplenty. A great many, for example, have been owners of large yachts looking for a more practical and versatile vehicle who have found the ideal compromise in the large inflatable boat. Not everyone, however, is fully convinced by the tubulars. Among the first were the Sacs Rebel, but lately we have also seen the historic French shipyard Zodiac going in this direction with the new Zodiac X10.
“When I designed this boat,” reveals architect Lino Siclari. – I started from the design of a maxi rib (large inflatable boat ed.), which was to have unobtrusive tubulars. I actually had in mind a maxi tender, or rather a party boat, with opening bulwarks and a large stern platform. I benchmarked with major players on the stage, such as Wally and Sacs Rebel, and Awave 48 was born.”
What Awave 48 looks like
This 14.60-footer points to significant deck surfaces and elegant furnishings on board, both above and below. Consider that the deck has a surface area of 52 square meters plus another 5 square meters thanks to the fold-down masonry.
In short, if you love parties on board or, for that matter, spending days with friends and family on board, this boat offers all the space you need. Do you love sunbathing? The bow one is double while the stern one is even triple.
The deck is protected by a T-Top, wider toward the stern to better shade this area. Then, in the middle of the boat, we find a kitchenette, complete with induction burners, sink and refrigerator, arranged to immediately border the dinette consisting of two facing sofas seating up to five people each, separated by the extendable teak table, equipped with a specially designed and made support, which converts from coffee table to a 2.20-meter long dining table. The ideal spot for convivial moments and aperitifs overlooking the sea.
The dashboard has two seats, to which two more side seats can be added. The wheelhouse offers two multifunction screens, push buttons, and the boat can be equipped with maneuvering joysticks to simplify moorings.
The cabins: let’s go below deck.
Awave 48 below deck is a nice surprise. Cabin height for the whole boat is more than two meters. There is a double bed in the bow with two closets and various shelves for objects, books, smartphones. The headboard, composed of four horizontal padded bands can be customized in materials and colors.
Also of note is the second twin cabin in the middle of the boat. The reason? Its height as rarely found on this size of hull. The décor is made with pickled oak for vertical tops and dark wenge stain for horizontal tops.
