Some boats are not just hulls, but true legends. The Senna Off-Shore 42 is one of them: born out of the meeting of powerboat king Tullio Abbate and track god Ayrton Senna. Presented on May 21, 1995 by Viviane Senna, Tullio Abbate and Prince Albert of Monaco, it celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. After meticulous restoration, it made its triumphant appearance at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este last month, reaffirming its iconic status.
The genesis of Tullio Abbate Senna Off-Shore 42
It was 1993 in Monte Carlo when Tullio Abbate and Ayrton Senna met, right at the Grand Prix, and joined forces to create the ultimate pleasure boat:“the most beautiful and fastest of all.” Senna, a demanding perfectionist, placed absolute trust in Abbate, recognizing his ability to translate such an ambitious vision into reality. Senna wanted a boat that would be number one, without equal, like him. Worthy of bearing his mark.
The Senna Off-Shore 42 was not only a jewel of technology and design, but it carried with it a noble purpose: proceeds from the“Senna” brand, launched in 1990, were earmarked for the Ayrton Senna Foundation to help children in need. This is the first boat in what Senna wanted to become a small series, with 10 percent of the proceeds going to the foundation. Senna’s“Driven to Perfection” philosophy permeated every aspect of the project, ensuring not only extreme performance (80 knots top speed, intentionally limited for safety and reliability ), but also impeccable reliability.

The F1 of the sea
The specimen at the center of this rebirth is the hull built especially for Ayrton Senna, now owned by the Tullio Abbate shipyard. This boat is constructed of Texilar TA (glass-kevlar) composite with carbon-kevlar reinforcements. It is 12.75 meters long and 2.65 meters wide and weighs only 5 tons.
Although the original BPM V12 type 900 engines have been recalibrated to 750 hp, and a speed of 70 knots , it should be noted that these are the last BPMs (Botta Puricelli Milano) to come off the production line. A historic name in Italian boating, with 75 years of glorious service, it was the only company in the world to design and build thrusters specifically for marine use in the face of so many “marinized” engines.

Return to the stage: starring at Villa d’Este
The culmination of this meticulous restoration was the Tullio Abbate Senna Off-Shore 42’s recent appearance at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. Here, the boat was used as a “shuttle” for the Concorso’s VIP guests.
