When you think of a family car, your mind immediately goes to a minivan, which, however attractive it may be, is still not very sporty. When Azimut set out to design a boat for the family, however, it turned that notion on its head. The Atlantis 45 is proof of this: a dynamic, agile, and sporty “coupé” with plenty of living space on board, measuring 14.60 meters in length. Atlantis is the sport cruiser line from the shipyard in Avigliana, in the province of Turin, and following the great successof the Atlantis 43 (140 boats in 4 years) unveiled the 45. Its lines are characteristic of recent models, namely a vertical, straight bow and a pronounced edge.
The side windows are another key design feature of the 45 and reflect the philosophy of the core Azimut models. The interior is exceptionally bright, with the window profiles adding a sense of dynamism to the hull. All the below-deck spaces benefit from this solution, which is not only aesthetic but also functional. There are fantastic views of the sea enjoyed by both the double cabin—which can accommodate three people—located amidships, as well as the dinette and the owner’s cabin in the bow.
Below deck, the interior spaces are remarkably spacious thanks to the maximum beam of 4.25 meters, which allows for an unusually wide layout. The dinette also houses the galley, positioned opposite the living area. It’s a galley as convenient as the one at home, with a full-height refrigerator and plenty of cabinets for storage. The entire boat is packed with space to store just about anything. The shipyard claims a storage capacity of 8,000 liters. Not bad! The Atlantis 45 thus proves to be a true family sports yacht.
Boarding is via the entrance on the left, which leaves more space for the aft sundeck—an asymmetrical feature of the boat. There are no obstacles; both the main deck and the flush deck are step-free.
The retractable stern platform can accommodate the tender, though it can also be stored in the garage. There is plenty of space here, and recreational equipment—from Seabobs to scuba tanks for diving enthusiasts—can be easily stowed.
The cockpit, including the helm area, is well protected by a hardtop that opens along 70% of its length. This area is thoughtfully laid out, with the helm station on the port side, opposite the modular chaise longue on the starboard side. With two ergonomic, adjustable seats, steering the Atlantis 45 is a breeze. This is aided by the windshield without center pillars, which provides optimal visibility. The helm console is well-organized, keeping all instruments within easy reach. The model we tested was equipped with Garmin electronics that were seamlessly integrated into the dashboard thanks to their minimalist design.
This Azimut Atlantis 45, powered by two Volvo D4 IPS 600 engines rated at 435 cv each, is starting to show its performance on the water. With 430 liters of fuel on board—about half of the 980-liter capacity—we reached a top speed of 35 knots while running the engines at 3,600 RPM. The sea was extremely calm, but even at full power, the feeling was that of a stable and responsive 4×4, thanks in part to the automatic trim system.
Sudden, sharp turns do not cause any jolts. Guests on board are therefore always comfortable while underway, whether sitting comfortably in the cockpit on the L-shaped sofa or at the bow on the spacious sun deck. Planing performance is excellent, achieved as early as 10 knots at just 1,900 RPM. In short, the Atlantis 45 is the ideal boat for anyone looking for a safe and agile vessel relative to its size, whether they’re a first-time owner or an experienced sailor.
