Barcando: an ecosystem in the service of boating

The story of one of the most innovative realities in the boating world told by the man who created it-Antonio Luigi Palermiti.

The story of Antonio Luigi Palermiti is a tale of passion, vision and resilience, an entrepreneurial adventure that has successfully navigated the waters of the nautical market, transforming a deep love for the sea into a true business ecosystem. Founder and CEO of Barcando Srl, Palermiti has built his career on a solid foundation: firsthand knowledge of the sailing world, combined with a keen capacity for innovation. His companies, operating on a national and international scale, offer a 360-degree service, encompassing every aspect of life at sea, from boat sales and rentals to assistance and management. Despite his passion for boats, Palermiti ‘s path has taken different directions; in fact, after a degree in economics with a specialization in tourism, he first worked in the mountain goods industry (his other passion) and later as a labor consultant: the call of the sea, however, has never left him.

Antonio Palermiti is founder and CEO of Barcando Srl. His strengths? Knowing the world of boating and having an excellent capacity for innovation.

A happy insight

The turning point came in 2003, when he decided to combine his managerial skills with his nautical passion. The embryo of Barcando was “Beyond the Blue,” his first charter company: with a 34-footer, he offered cruises to the Aeolian Islands, enriching the experience with scuba diving and trekking. The business was an immediate success, leading him to expand the fleet and invest in new boats, including one of the first catamarans to sail in Sicily. 2014 was the year of the decisive turning point with the creation of the Barcando brand, a simple and evocative name that encapsulates his vision of a business that goes beyond simple chartering. With tireless work and unwavering dedication, Palermiti has built a true nautical ecosystem, knowing how to unite the physical world of boating with the digital one. His online platforms have become a benchmark for the industry, a success that is a testament to his determination and ability to anticipate market needs.

Among the most innovative trawlers on the market are Northmans such as the 1300 (pictured above), a Polish shipyard that combines the seaworthiness and habitability of these powerboats with substantial, water-friendly outdoor spaces.

360° services for boating

In over ten years of history, Antonio ‘s companies have become a complete nautical ecosystem, integrating physical services with a solid digital presence. The Barcando group today consists of several divisions, each with a distinct mission; Barcando.it is a travel agency specializing in worldwide nautical charters. Barcando Charter is the group’s charter company, with a fleet owned and under management operating in Sicily, Sardinia and Tuscany; Barcando Yachts, on the other hand, takes on the connotation of a division dedicated to buying and selling boats, with Italian exclusivity for prestigious brands such as YOT (power catamarans), Aventura (sailing and motor catamarans) and Northman (trawlers and sailboats). Finally, there is also Che Crew!, an innovative portal for crews and charter companies, created to professionalize the industry. With a dedicated team of 12 people and strategic locations along the coasts of our peninsula, Barcando ‘s philosophy is simple: prioritize quality. This translates into a curated fleet, personalized service, all mixed with a strong focus on staff training.

The YOT 41 has a superyacht-like aft cockpit despite a length of “only” 12 meters.

Conquering the international market

Palermiti‘s ultimate goal? To grow Barcando internationally, while remaining true to his roots. For him, the sea is more than a business; it is a symbol of freedom, and his desire is to help people rediscover its most authentic essence. Palermiti notes that many of his aficionados, after experiencing a boating vacation, end up becoming boat owners and entrust Barcando with the management of their boats. In one of his reflections, Palermiti pointed out how the advent of catamarans, including motorboats, is transforming the charter industry, making travel more comfortable, often at the expense of the authentic sailing experience. His target clientele is broad, ranging from young people on a tighter budget to highly affluent customers. Palermiti noted that many of them, after experiencing a boating vacation, choose to become boat owners and entrust the management of their boats precisely to Barcando.
