At the last Cannes Boat Show we saw the unveiling of Beneteau’s new Gran Turismo range, with two very different models, the 35 and 40: a walkaround open the smaller, a weekender coupe the second. And soon, as it had promised, the French shipyard will present the flagship of the new range, Gran Turismo 50, at Boot Düsseldorf, which starts next January 17.

Gran Turismo 50

GT 50 faithfully incorporates the ideas seen on its 40-foot smaller sister, declining them in 15 meters in length: sleek lines defined by a minimal superstructure, drawn by the two crescent-shaped side windows. The hardtop continues to protect the dinette in the cockpit, helping to further streamline the silhouette. Along the side, three rectangular portholes, simple and clean, perpetuate an understated, modern design. For those who want a sportier look, however, the Alpine livery is available, just like its smaller sisters. In this case, it brings in a hull in the typical access blue and a black for the hardtop that accentuate the play of contrasts even more, along with many other details such as the handrails or upholstery.

The layout

Two areas define this design: the bow and the stern, pillars of on-board conviviality, to which most of the spaces on deck are dedicated. The bow sees a large sundeck placed on the deckhouse that culminates in a lounging area defined by two sofas that face each other, lowered and protected, to create a corner of privacy. The stern, on the other hand, is the triumph of sociability. The two terraces work in symbiosis with the large extendable hydraulic bridge, which can of course also act as a tender lift. The result is a higher-category beach club, revolving around the large aft sundeck and the two C-shaped sofas surrounding a fold-down table.

Beneteau Gran Turismo 50 – Interiors

In all this, the superstructure seems almost “sacrificed” on the altar of open spaces. If on the smaller 40 it was indeed difficult to speak of a salon, in this case the impression is due more to the contrast with such a large cockpit than to actual small dimensions. In addition to the helm station there is in fact a galley, which divides the interior from the exterior, and a small sofa. It remains, however, a boat made for outdoor living. In any case, for those who want to spend a few days on board, below deck they will find three cabins and 2 bathrooms, with the owner’s cabin in the classic bow position. Finally, the motorization is entrusted to a pair of Volvo Penta IPS engines.
