The renewal of the Bertram range continues apace. A journey that began in 2015 with the Gavio Group’s acquisition of the historic Eagle shipyard.
First step of the new course was celebrated with the entry on the scene of the Bertram 35 Flybridge which was later followed by the 61 Convertible, 50 Express, 39CC and 28 CC. In just over 6 years, Bertram has spawned three product families CC Series, XC Series and Offshore Series for a total of 7 new models (the last two, the 33CC and 28XC, will be unveiled again this year at the fall shows). Not bad for one of the brands that has written memorable pages in the history of star-studded boating in over 60 years. Another new chapter will be written by the new Bertram 28 CC. The shipyard did not hesitate for a moment and wanted to take the opportunity offered by the Palm Beach International Boat Show to present it as a world premiere.
Bertram 28 CC
Looking at the numbers, this model represents the entry-level of the shipyard’s entire range, but reading the story, it is clear to see that this is not a complete novelty but rather a comeback. In fact, at the turn of 1967 and 1969 Bertram built 99 examples of the 20 Sportsman, a center console that met with great success at the time and is now considered a true cult object for enthusiasts and collectors. The design, which bore the signature of the caliber of C. Raymond Hunt and was powered by a 160-horsepower MerCruiser inboard, was distinguished above all by its excellent marine qualities. Today, just as then, history is repeating itself.
The new Bertram 28 CC comes on the heels of the 39CC (read article here) the latter unveiled in 2020. The reasons for focusing on this configuration stem from the push of market demand combined with the growing popularity of outboard propulsion. The design of the latest boat was born around the idea of offering high comfort and extreme practicality in terms of use: hence, for example, the idea of creating two entrances to board the boat, one at the broadside on the port side with the boat moored at the English side and one at the stern on the starboard side. Approved to carry up to 12 people the Bertram 28 CC is distinguished by a deck plan designed in every detail.

The first element that jumps out at you is the choice to design the bow area borrowing the bowrider concept and, therefore, set up as a real cockpit equipped with broadside seating. A true open-air living area that is complemented by additional seating positioned adjacent to the command post. The latter conceals a proper utility room with toilet and sink. Recessed under the helm console, despite its small size, this room is well thought out precisely because it is located in a low position relative to the deck level and thus takes full advantage of the height of the structure offered by the helm station.
Movement on board is ensured by wide side passages and the choice to place the handrail along the inner perimeter of the bulwarks while hiding it from view. The driver’s station sheltered by a hardtop is equipped with a pair of seats for pilot and co-pilot. On-board functions are deferred to two 12-inch Garmin displays while a third is interfaced with the outboard motors and displays their information. Optional equipment includes a joystick to better manage the pair of thrusters. In this regard, the standard version includes two 250-horsepower Mercurys, but if desired, the Bertram 28 CC can also be combined with the new Verado 300s.

The aft area houses, behind the two seats, a wetbar that can also be configured with a grill, depending on requirements. Space has been made underneath to accommodate a Yeti icebox. The rest of the cockpit was designed as an area to be used for sport fishing trips as well. Translated it means presence of everything you need: from rod holders (12 in total) to live bait tanks to lockers to store your catch.
The hull measures an overall length of 9.14 meters such that it falls into the watercraft category, while the most surprising figure is the width set at 2.97 meters confirming the generous surface area allocated to life on board.
Fuel tanks have a maximum capacity of about 757 liters while the capacity of water tanks is 106 liters. If necessary, the Bertram 28 CC can also mount a gyro stabilizer from Seakeeper housed aft inside the center locker. In short, a true small flagship.
