Blue Flag 2023
Brindisi Marina also awarded the Blue Flag for 2023

The 84 landings awarded Blue Flag 2023 have been announced. The list includes the best marinas and marinas in Italy, which have distinguished themselves for sustainable management from an environmental, social and service perspective.

Regions with the most Blue Flags

The region most heavily represented in the 2023 Blue Flags map is once again Liguria, which leads the ranking with 16 landings spread across all four of its provinces. In second place is Friuli Venezia Giulia, which plants the Blue Flag in as many as 14 landings, while closing the podium with 9 landings is Campania. This is followed by Veneto and Sardinia with 8 landings, Puglia and Tuscany with 7 landings, and Marche with 6 landings. Close behind are Lazio, Sicily and Calabria with 2 landings and Basilicata, Emilia Romagna and Abruzzo with 1 landing.

The criteria for obtaining Blue Flag recognition

This year the number of criteria that must be met has risen to 38 – 23 imperative and 15 suggested – to enter the list of Blue Flag awarded landings. Among the different types of criteria-which you will find listed here on the bandierablu.org website-are Environmental Education and Information, Environmental Management, Services and Safety, Water Quality, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Social/Community Participation. The regulations assume a responsible attitude on the part of port administrations, with environmental cautions to reduce the impact of the facility. A few examples:

  • The water at the landing must be visibly clean, with no evidence of pollution, such as oily slicks, floating garbage, discharges, or other obvious traces of pollution
  • The landing must be equipped with facilities and services for the disabled
  • The landing must be equipped with containers for separate collection of recyclable waste such as glass, aluminum, paper, plastic, organic waste, etc.
