It had turned some heads a little bit with German Tyde‘s first project, The Icon, created together with BMW and first presented to the public at the last Cannes Yachting Festival. Now the collaboration between the two brands where BMW supplies the batteries, but also the design (the work in fact of its subsidiary Designwork) takes a major step forward.

Tyde The Open, true luxury on the Foils

If in fact The Icon is a 13-meter for short trips, with the flavor of an exclusive water cab, this 14-meter will be-expected arrival by 2024-a true open that will enter the fierce market sector of walkaround daycruisers. Compared to its competitors, however, The Open (a decidedly swaggering name) can play two extra nice trumps: full-electric propulsion and the use of foils.

Tyde The Open: Eyes on the numbers

Indeed, echoing the design structure of The Icon, the new boat also has dual electric propulsion and triple foils. Her technical data immediately tell the story: very light, 11,500 kg, definitely 4.50 meters wide and with a sailboat-like draft, 1.95 meters when stationary, given of course the presence of foils.

Power comes from two 100 kW electric motors.

Full Electric with an eye to the future

Propulsion is 100 percent electric, entrusted to two 100 kW motors powered by two 400 kWh batteries. Due to the efficiency of sailing with foils this propulsion system provides a maximum speed of 30 knots and a cruising speed of 25 (with a range of about 50 miles).

Tyde the Open: the real news…

What is striking about this new design is that for the first time a true electric “cruiser” is being offered. Granted, it is an open-walkaround with only a forward sofa underneath that can be converted into a double berth and a separate bathroom, but it is still livable below deck. Outside, there are two living areas, in addition to the traditional aft cockpit, the bow triangle is also furnished with two sofas facing each other.
