The boating license has been getting a lot of discussion lately. Many were in favor of a “license for all” and not just for engines over 40 horsepower (although the standard does not actually mention horsepower) starting with the Evinrude outboard issue.

THE MEDICAL EXAMINATION FOR THE BOATING LICENSE? YOU CAN FINALLY MAKE IT IN NAUTICAL SCHOOLS

Many among the supporters of the license for all have expressed concerns about the costs, considered exaggeratedly high, to obtain it. While nothing is moving on this front, good news comes for those who have now made up their minds to get their boat license. If you want to take it, to date the first hurdle (second if we also consider the price) is encountered in the medical examination for fitness. In fact, the examination, can only be performed at public facilities (e.g., ASLs).

The problems? Displacement, long time, and so on. Here, too, the comparison with the world of cars comes in handy, where medical examinations, often, can be conducted directly at the driving school where the course for obtaining a driver’s license is taken.

Confindustria Nautica works for medical examination directly in schools

To improve the situation, and make it easier to obtain a boating license, Confindustria Nautica is lobbying in Parliament. In the text of the corrective decree of the Recreational Boating Code, which will come into effect, at the latest, on August 13, 2020, it states that there are “simplification measures aimed at conducting medical examinations not only at public facilities but also at medical cabinets, Also set up on the premises of nautical schools and consortia for nautical school activity“.
