Bosch Engineering – electrification kits for boats

Sustainability and combating climate crisis are finally becoming priority issues, leading to a transition to hybrid and/or electric in the marine sector as well. Against this backdrop, several companies are committed to the direction of limiting their environmental impact, and others are inserting themselves by bringing innovation from other sectors, as in the case of Bosch Engineering.

Who the Bosch boat electification kit is for.

Bosch Engineering, a subsidiary of the Bosch Group, presents its first electrification kit for boats under 24 meters in length . Who specifically is it aimed at?

“This system,” says Gianfranco Fenocchio, general manager of Bosch Engineering – is designed for pure electric in the case of boats under 10 meters and for hybrid solutions under 10 meters. The focus for now is recreational, and we expect to be able to do applications on both outboard and inboard engines.

Bosch Engineering: here is the proposed kit

Already experienced and entrenched in the

, Bosch brings its know-how to the marine sector by offering a boat electrification kit consisting of three key components: a control unit, a 400 V electric motor, and an inverter with integrated DC/DC converter (INVCON).

The brain of the entire system is the control unit, tailored to meet the specific requirements of individual customers and equipped with a scalable software platform derived from

The design of the 400 V high-speed permanent magnet synchronous motor then ensureshigh power density and efficiency, and can be supplied in two power variants. A first variant weighs 30 kilograms and offers a maximum peak power of 90 Kw, while the second has a maximum power of 140 Kw and a weight of 63 kg. Due to their compactness, both versions are easy to install even in the case of existing systems.

Compact and easy to integrate on board, theinverter with integrated DC/DC converter offers a maximum power output of 140 Kw and generates three-phase alternating current with variable frequency from the battery’s direct current. While it works in reverse in the recovery phase, it functions instead as a generator.

Bosch thus expands its offerings, extending them to the marine sector as well. Thus, the intention with which Bosch is launching into this area is, as stated by itself, to help build more sustainable and responsible boating towards the marine ecosystem. This is a laudable intention that more and more companies seem to be adhering to, and one that we hope to see emerge more and more as sustainable energy form production, storage and manufacturing technologies advance.
