The market for motorized catamarans is expanding steadily and rapidly, garnering increasing acceptance and moving into ranges and destinations of use that were unexplored just a few years ago. Providing us with an excellent example, a very recent and new partnership opens up room for not a few questions: Brabus X Sunreef. On the one hand, one of the world leaders on the customization and super-performance front, Brabus Marine; on the other, one of the most committed shipyards on the sustainability side in the production of high-end catamarans, Sunreef Yachts. We know that the first hull to come to life will be an evolution of the Sunreef 55 Ultima, but what form will it take? Will it be a super-fast multihull in the style of Brabus, or will it be a very sustainability-conscious design, conjugated as best as possible on the luxury dear to the German tuning house?
Brabus X Sunreef
At 16.6 meters long, the Sunreef 55 Ultima is, as of now, a catamaran available in both hybrid and classic engine versions. But what should we expect from what will result from the announced partnership? The debut is scheduled for 2025. On the one hand, on the strength of the example provided by its collaboration with Axopar, Brabus has shown us, to date, its ability to offer “enhanced” and ultra-performing evolutions of existing hulls, obviously entirely revised to espouse the look and style of the so-called Brabus Effect (see the Brabus 1200XC Black Ops for instance). On the other side, however, we have Sunreef, a yard known not only for its range of catamarans but also for its focus on the “green” factor.
What will be the answer offered? The options, potentially, are three. In the first case, we might see a super-performance, super-fast catamaran fully congruent with the German manufacturer’s style, devoted to luxury and the most “aggressive” styling. On the other hand, it could instead be a hull that looks at extracting the maximum from the potential of the sustainable, offering us one of the hybrids with the greatest wow effect on the market. The third option, perhaps the most balanced, could offer a combination of the two components, giving birth to a hull that is not only high-performing, but also technologically advanced in terms of its ecological impact. To know, however, we will have to wait for the official launch.
Brabus X Sunreef Yachts: first steps
Regardless of the assumptions and the outcome of these, what we know so far is that, according to the shipyard’s statements, the first model born from the partnership will be a “custom-built” catamaran. The stated goal in this regard will be one: to offer an unprecedented sailing experience. As emphasized by the two partners, it will not be a single model, but an entire range of multihulls.
