It is called Marine Cork, you can find it in its booth at Milan Yachting Week – The digital boat show, and it is the only natural and non-synthetic alternative to teak for a boat.

What is Marine Cork

This is told by technical manager Francesco Errico in the interview at the entrance of the booth: it is a 100% natural wood coating like teak, but simply the raw material used is cork. Yes, because thanks to high-tech processing and cork’s own characteristics, Marine Cork becomes a perfect product for coating boat surfaces. Nothing to do with the cork we are used to knowing, like the cork on wine bottles for example.

Cork as a deck coating: only high technology

Marine Cork transforms cork into a high-tech product that is as compact and smooth to the eye as a teak lath. And walking on it gives a “soft” feeling.

In addition, it has outstanding characteristics, such as simply weighing less than a third of traditional or synthetic teak. To give you an example, again in the interview narrative that we recommend you listen to well: a 40-square-meter area with Marine Cork weighs 100 kg, while with teak siding 300/350 kg! Quite a difference, reminding you that, tendentially, the key rule for a boat is that the less it weighs, the better it goes on the water.

Does not stain and is as durable as teak

Another very interesting characteristic of teak is its ability to resist stains. You can see for yourself in an effective video found in the booth how, with Marine Cork, coffee or wine stains go away with a little water without being absorbed, as happens with teak siding.
