“Mistake simply gives us the opportunity to start becoming smarter,” is a phrase attributed to the great Henry Ford.
And today more than ever we treasure it by first admitting our mistake: during the Christmas vacations we published a news, taken from a press release by theAssonautica, which stated that according to a survey conducted by the association, more than 70% of the more than 1,000 boaters surveyed were over 65 years old.
That would be to say that about half of those who go boating are close to 80 years old. Published the news, lots of comments on social media and a sense of discouragement: this resounding figure would decree the rapid dissolution of the Italian boating industry. No one will be boating anytime soon. By extinction of the species.
Boat lovers are not about to go extinct
Fortunately, once we viewed the full research (although it was not attached to the press release in question, we sprinkle our heads in ashes for not having done so sooner!) we discovered that there had been an error, more than 70 percent of respondents are over 46 years old, not 65 as stated in the statement. Quite a difference of 19 years less! We have reassured ourselves that, for now, boaters are not yet an endangered species.
