The recreational register for watercraft is a reality. It was conceived by Noima, a Venetian start-up company. The project, conceived by Venetian startup Noima and developed thanks to its technology partner EZ Lab Blockchain Solutions of Padua, is called DiportoChain, a digital registry that for the first time leverages blockchain technology to make unique and distinctive recreational vessels up to 10 meters in length.

Diportochain, the recreational register for watercraft

Access the digital identity of a recreational vessel, tracking its entire life, from purchase to sale, through maintenance activities, improvements, and disposals in total confidentiality. Thus protecting their ownership and value over time while fully respecting privacy and maintaining anonymity. All based on immutable and protected information that is easily accessible on one’s smartphone by reading a QR Code placed on the vessel. These are the prerogatives of the system.

Why it is useful

To date, Italian regulations do not provide any registration or registration requirements for small watercraft. A regulatory gap that generates an undoubted disadvantage due to the lack of protections on the purchased asset, which, being devoid of uniqueness, remains exposed to multiple risks, including theft, loss of value, and tampering. DiportoChain tries to address this need and that allows for the enhancement of the asset by making secure and immutable the recorded data that the owner chooses to notarize.

“We are always on the lookout for new solutions that can improve and enhance the services of the boating world,” says Dario Malgarise, Director of the Tito Nordio Sailing School and former Luna Rossa crew member, “so we believe that having a system like DiportoChain, which allows for the identification of recreational vessels, allows for added value to the industry and a push for innovation in a market that is poorly protected by regulations.”

DiportoChain is designed for dealers and charterers, because it allows them to increase the value of the asset purchased or leased by the customer; for boatyards and repair shops, which can record the birth of the vessel through an identification code and keep track of repairs and improvements for marinas and boat clubs, which will be able to monitor access by sending a simple QR Code that will identify the vessel with a simple, fast and effective system; for insurance companies, making it possible to accurately estimate the value of the vessel and thus its insurable capital, but also for private owners who will be able to keep track of maintenance, modifications and equipment of their vessel, which thus acquires more value on the market.

How does diporto chain work

It only takes a few clicks to register by logging on to the portal (read here) and indicating the data the owner will want to convey such as: features, size, model, photo. The information entered will be armored thanks to the blockchain technology used, which guarantees the anonymity and confidentiality of the data.

The service based on blockchain technology generates an immutable Virtual Plate that will accompany the vessel over time for the purpose of enhancing the value of the investment also thanks to the Non-FungibleToken (NFT) that record the transfer of ownership. In this way, the vessel becomes unique and distinctive by meeting the need for value protection. At the end of the registration process, a QR Code license plate is sent to the user to be attached to the vessel, a digital ID card that can be accessed by scanning the QR Code and thus discover its history.
