Getting a completely custom-made yacht? This Dutch shipyard, Super Lauwersmeer, is aiming for exactly that. For the “boats out of the choir” category, we can’t help but tell you about the new Discovery OC 48. This yacht was born like this: by modifying the previous OC 47 to accommodate the detailed requests of an owner, a new boat was born. This version next summer will become a model in its own right. The fusion of great interior livability and abundant space outside (particularly at the stern) make this “enclosed” craft also suitable for Mediterranean coasts. Let’s see why.

Discovery OC 48

At 14.6 meters long by 4.55 meters wide, it is the largest Discovery ever built by the Dutch shipyard. With additional space, the 48 OC can accommodate three cabins: the owner’s cabin, forward, a double cabin to port and a single cabin to starboard, which, if not needed, can be converted into an office, a gymnasium or configured as desired by the customer.

An extra-large aft platform

Modifications, on this 48 OC, focused mainly on the on-board garage, which was particularly enlarged to accommodate a very wide range of toys and the associated charging and inflating points for this equipment. The large aft bathing platform also required attention, to create the atmosphere of a terrace by the sea, with shower, umbrella and curtains, for the best relaxing experience. From here, you can enter directly into the open cockpit, where a large L-shaped sofa is the star of the lounge area.

The development of this model fully represents the shipyard’s commitment to building together with its customers, thanks in part to the steel construction, which frees them from the constraints of mass-produced molds. While the goal this time was to maximize fun, the next customer may choose a completely different direction. And that opens up a whole new world of possibilities.
