For lovers of the most classic and iconic hulls ever, there is good news: Riva Days, the event dedicated to wooden powerboats built by the Riva Shipyard between 1958 and 1996, is back. In short, from June 28 to July 3, Venice will be the host of the “Riva Days – Marco Polo, ASI NAUTIC SHOW – Frederique Constant Concours d’Elegance,” the annual event dedicated to vintage Rivas, this year strong with nearly 50 attendees from 12 different countries.
A unique opportunity to see these wonders paraded through the waters of the lagoon, with stops planned at the most iconic locations, such as Burano, Murano, Torcello, the Lido and San Marco. Organized by the Riva Historical Society, the event will meet with an additional event dedicated to the classics, the Principality of Monaco Trophy, which will also see Venenice host the Vele d’Epoca, with which the riva will parade at the Bacino San Marco this Saturday, June 30.
Riva Days 2024 – Hulls in attendance
The Sarnico Shipyard’s production is undoubtedly among the most famous in the world, with over 4098 hulls launched exclusively under the management of legendary engineer Carlo Riva. These include a number of models that have passed into the Olympus of boating, including, needless to say, the iconic Aquaramas, produced since 1962. Populating the lagoon will be as many as 12 of these(HERE our in-depth article).
In addition to the shipyard’s 12 cult models, as many as 15 models of Ariston and Tritone(read our in-depth look at the Riva Tritone HERE), both of which have been produced since 1950, will also be on display in the lagoon. Also always present, Florida, Rudy and Riva Jr.
Among the 50 hulls in the water, there will also be a number of Aquarama Specials, the Maud II and Grifone, as well as La bella Vita, a Riva Olympic, one of the shipyard’s little gems(we told you about it HERE). These three will also celebrate their 50th birthday here, launched in 1974 and now in Venice to mark the remarkable event. Concluding the notable presences is the Florida named Tender To Rhea, from 1958, the oldest vessel among those ready to ply the waters of the Serenissima.
Riva Days 2024 – The Event
To crown the 2024 event, as mentioned, will be the grand parade on Sunday, June 30, which will get underway at about 11 a.m. and, in conjunction with the “Trofeo Principato di Monaco a Venezia – Le Vele d’Epoca in Laguna,” will thus parade in front of St. Mark’s Basin, cheering up all passing fans and onlookers.
At 12 noon, however, the Frederique Constant Elegance Competition themed Marco Polo, an exceptional celebration of the 700th anniversary of the death of the famous Venetian. This one, at the Marina Santelena, will see the Rivas compete, precisely, for the prize to the most elegant among those in attendance. Also on Sunday, the maritime skills test, scheduled for the afternoon and intended to determine the winner of the ASI Cup.
