For those of you who like to sail relaxed and enjoy the best cocktails at sunset by the sea, next summer’s news is sure to please. NIO – Needs Ice Only – is an Italian start-up that was born with a very clear goal: to bring the world’s most popular drinks to places where it is impossible to find venues, such as the most isolated beaches, campgrounds, or perhaps a sailboat at anchor in a bay.

These are ready-made cocktails contained in CD-sized envelopes, a system that makes them easily transportable and stowable in the galley. When you feel like drinking, simply take a glass, put ice in it and shake NIO and pour it in. This will allow you to enjoy a relaxing moment in privacy on your boat, sipping a drink as freshly made by the bartender. The cocktails are, in fact, mixed according to traditional recipes with 100% Made in Italy production. Premium ingredients, with no added additives or preservatives, ensure the quality of the drinks, stored in sealed, unalterable food-grade plastic bags.

The list of combinations currently available includes a review of popular drinks such as Whiskey sour, gin sour, Negroni, Vodka sour, Manhattan, Daiquiri, Milano-Torino, Cosmopolitan, and Tommy’s Margarita. Each package contains the ingredients and directions for use and some trivia about the origin of the cocktail. NIO Cocktails is the brainchild of Luca Quagliano, a collector of fine spirits and entrepreneur who together with partners Alessandro Palmarin and Massimo Palmieri decided to launch this start-up. The cocktail list consists of a selection of the best known and most popular, but limited and special editions are added.
