There’s a new weekender on the market, the firstborn of a custom line just getting started and intent on raising the luxury bar a notch higher still. It’s theEdge 65, the brand new 19.6-meter from Dutch Van der Valk Shipyard. Three cabins, exceptional outdoor spaces, 48 square meters of beach club and dual propulsion options: inboard, or outboard up to 2400 horsepower. With the Edge 65 comes, in short, a new luxury weekender designed to combine relaxation and fun with top performance: 35 knots at cruising and 40 knots at top speed.
Edge 65
Made on a custom basis by the Dutch shipyard, the new Edge 65 is an aluminum yacht designed to best combine two distinct prerogatives: on the one hand, offshore spirit and performance, and on the other, relaxation and exploration, thus making it a perfect weekender to fly to one’s destination and then enjoy it in calm and comfort. The quadruple outboard Mercury V12 engine thus offers, in combination with a petestep hull, the performance needed, marrying with a platform that is ideal both for experiencing the outdoors and for being able to spend nights in one’s favorite bays, islands, and coves.
Edge 65 – Exterior
Addressing the exterior of the new Edge 65 means understanding, first and foremost, its intended use. Since this is a custom project and projected toward the outdoor experience, the key to interpret the volumes is simple: maximization of space and comfort. In this sense, the lines already follow the setting, with high bow broadside to keep the deck dry, furnished flybridge and aft beach club.
Just starting from the stern is the hub of outdoor living. To take advantage of every volume, every inch, the fold-down masonry immediately comes into play, offering a 48-square-meter seafront patio, complete with lounge areas and integrated with the covered salon, where it overlooks thanks to fully openable windows. The design team thus creates a unique volume that plays between open and semi-enclosed spaces, creating, basically, a single volume that soars over the water.
The fly, in turn, offers additional open spaces that are also well usable while sailing, thus providing a second lounge area alongside the wheelhouse. Here, a crane also facilitates embarkation and disembarkation of a possible tender. Instead, the bow is clear, dedicated to being usable in any way one desires.
Interior
Made of aluminum, one of the great strengths of the design is its customizability. A feature to which the interior volumes, which vary according to owner preference, also submit. In this case, two double aft cabins and a large full-beam owner’s cabin populate the below deck, while the wheelhouse, galley, and dining area reside instead on the upper deck, where everything, however, matches the exteriors it overlooks.
Motorization and performance
Specifically designed for scenarios such as archipelagos and islands, speed and shallow draft are two of its key features. On the one hand, 40 knots of top speed, 35 at cruising speed, thus allows one to travel quickly to where one wants to go; on the other hand, the draft of less than a meter allows good approaches to islands, thus being able to navigate even in shallow waters. The Petestep hull is linked to an engine powering the first example relies on four Mercury Verado V12 outboard engines of 600 horsepower each, but, by design, an inboard option is also planned.
