Off Piste Marine, a new British shipyard, has started construction of the first unit in the Endurance series: the E 110L, an 11-meter catamaran. The very name of the shipyard-“off piste”-promises not only great exploration capabilities, but also “out of the ordinary” solutions.

One only has to look at it to know that we are dealing with something completely new. Futuristic look, somewhere between a warship and a heavy-duty off-roader: the exterior design was taken care of by the Italian HydroTec, a design studio with 30 years of experience in the field. The E110L is an 11-meter catamaran that was created as a chase boat or tender for exploration yachts, a constantly growing segment, but can also be used as a self-contained vessel.

The technique

Building a vehicle that can withstand any location and climate is anything but a trivial task. This is why a hull constructed of military-grade aluminum was used, which allows for a sturdy structure while keeping the weights down. Most importantly, it is easily repairable almost anywhere, even in remote locations, and is always modifiable.

The catamaran configuration is also a specific choice for this utility boat: increased carrying capacity and reduced draft, as well as the ability to remain safe and stable in all weather conditions. James Wakeford, CEO of Off Piste Marine, says it is a boat built to give the owner confidence in going anywhere and, more importantly, coming back: “I always focus on safety, reliability, practicality, and redundancy, which are critical for a remote area exploration vessel.”

It is powered by a pair of diesel outboards to ensure the best possible range (up to 450 miles with 600 L, for a fuel consumption of 1.33 miles/liter) but also easy fuel management aboard the mother ship.

The layout

Endurance E110L takes the concept of modularity to a new level. Not only is the boat designed to be fully customizable, a feature that we now know is essential in this market segment, but its layout can also be modified “in use.” In fact, each boat can be adapted with specific modules:

  • Dive Pack, for underwater activities;
  • Fishing Pack, for fishing;
  • Adventure Pack, for adventure or nautical camping;
  • Utility Pack, for carrying miscellaneous and incidentals.

Forms can be easily swapped and stored directly on the mothership, allowing the vessel to be customized for each activity in real time.

The prospects

Sea trials of E110L are scheduled for late summer, but other models in the Endurance range are already planned, including an enlarged E110WB (wide-body) version and a slightly shorter 9-meter, E90.
