ENVGO NV1

Electric drives are slowly conquering the market, amidst fashion, regulations and incentives, and yards are responding to this demand with increasingly creative offerings, especially in being able to combine the need for speed and range with the weight of large battery packs.

ENVGO NV1

To succeed in this difficult task, where efficiency is key, electric propulsion is increasingly being combined with foils to reduce friction especially at high speeds. And this is precisely the technology chosen by NV1, which promises high performance combined with the comfort of wave-free cruising, flying above them.

What does it look like?

NV1 takes advantage of a tricycle-arranged foil configuration, thus opposite to the one we saw on the well-known Candela, now a benchmark in the category: a single fin at the bow and a double one at the stern, on which the two electric motors are also mounted, reaching a peak power of 245 kW and continuous power of 125 kW. With this power, the shipyard predicts a top speed of 43 knots and a cruise of 22, for an estimated range of 64 miles with an 80 kWh battery pack, which can be quickly recharged on DC. To save as much weight as possible, the hull is constructed of carbon fiber. Also noteworthy is its shape, with a pronounced deadrise for the category and a deep redan. Finally, the flight attitude is automatically controlled by software that, based on readings from countless sensors, makes 250 adjustments per second to make navigation as easy as possible.

The design

But what is clearly striking is the design, which is decidedly extreme and futuristic. Signed by designer David Weiss (the same one who designed the 150,000-euro jet ski), it looks like a spaceship straight out of a science fiction movie, and not only thanks to the fact that it will fly. The curves intersect along the very complex side, interacting with the lines of the deck, blending seamlessly. The layout then is decidedly American, symmetrical, without a sundeck, with 6 chaise lounges (one for each passenger), also decidedly futuristic.

What is the status of the project?

The launch is planned for 2026. The first hull of the prototype was completed last September, and pre-orders were recently opened. To learn more about the project’s progress, visit: www.envgo.com/news.
