In the heart of the Mediterranean, on the island of Elba, there is now one of the largest hauling and launching machines in our seas. It is the 880-ton travel lift from Portoferraio that will soar in the yards of Esaom Cesa from July 2022. We can call it a “super travel lift,” and it was built by Italy’s Cimolai Technology in cooperation with the Elba shipyard to move superyachts up to 65 meters in length for which there are then 7 places on land dedicated to this size. This flagship of Italian technology was made at the specific request of Esaom Cesa and has a slipway width of as much as 14 meters.
This news is just one stage in a deeper process of restructuring the shipyard to which, in the coming months, will also be added new dockside posts. Already operational, however, is a technical berth for mooring yachts up to 65 meters in length, equipped with power outlets and facilities sized for the purpose.
“It is a great leap in the quality of the offer, we aim to be competitive in a market segment that is the most demanded by shipowners. The Island of Elba and its allied industries will also benefit from our investment with presence in the territory of captains and crews, who will have the opportunity to get to know and visit the Island, discover its beauty and become our ambassadors in the world” states Umberto Buzzoni, President & CEO of Esaom Cesa S.p.A.
Esaom Cesa, a reference for refitting
Esaom Cesa with its approximately 200,000 square meters, 80,000 of which are equipped, is among the largest centers in Italy and the Mediterranean. Among the covered areas for processing and storage, the shipyard has a 3,000 sq. m. shed with a height of 27 meters for boats up to 40m, plus another 6,000 sq. m. covered area with a maximum height of 9m.
The lifting equipment used are 4 travel lifts (including the largest 880-ton one), 2 truck cranes and 3 hydraulic trolleys.
Specialized workers and experience gained over more than 70 years enable Esaom Cesa to offer maintenance, reconstruction and refitting services on boats with any need. In addition, the Shipyard is an authorized workshop for the most important brands of marine engines and a service center for some of the most prestigious yachting brands.
