The safe and well-served landing place to enjoy the Aeolian Sea
Inaugurated in July 2017, after only two years of construction, Capo d’Orlando Marina beautifies the stretch of coastline east of the town of Capo d’Orlando, integrating perfectly with the landscape thanks to the rounded shape of its buildings, the care for greenery, and the light, bright colors, such as the blue of the parapet wall that seems to blend with the sky and the sea, interspersed only by the Aeolian Islands in the background. Watchwords: assistance, comfort and quality services. Everything every yachtsman expects to find in a modern “marina resort.” As of 2021, it is the only Sicilian port to have achieved Blue Flag Landings.
The port
After passing the forebay and entering along the entrance channel, after calling on VHF channel 9, you are met by the duty mooring operator who, on board the dinghy, guides you to your assigned berth at the dock or floating docks. Berths are with dead-bulk traps, and columns in front of the berths supply drinking water and electricity. After mooring is finished, we head to the marina office for check-in and to receive useful information about life in the marina and the surrounding area. Along the quay is a beautiful promenade of stores including bars, wine shops, boutiques, restaurants, and again the shipchandler, supermarket, and self-service laundry. Technical services include the shipyard with a 110-ton travel lift and a large area for boat storage and repair, and the filling station that dispenses gasoline, diesel, and subsidized diesel fuel. Opposite the entrance to the main wharf, a ceramic staircase leads to the upper floors where a 4-star hotel, the Sestante Marina Motel, offers hospitality with 14 rooms, a conference room, and the Yacht club with a terrace from which to enjoy the view of the harbor and the sea. Behind then a footpath highlights a protected archaeological site, the Mercadante Quarries: within a natural pool, ancient circular stone discs can be glimpsed, especially at low tide.
Where it is located – Sicily (Capo d’Orlando, Messina)
The marina’s strategic location favors unique routes to the pearls of the Mediterranean, the Aeolian Islands. In addition, the port is also a gateway that leads to the discovery of many small villages that are part of the nearby Nebrodi Park.
