With the Cannes Yachting Festival getting closer and closer, more and more hulls are approaching their debut.
Among them is a true “giant,” the ExtraX96 Triplex, from Extra Yachts.
At 28.6 meters overall, equivalent to 96 feet, the goal of the new X96 is one: to raise the bar in terms of standards, comfort and volume on the sub-100-foot yacht front. Quickly said, her 28.6 x 7.6 meters are thus exploited to the full to offer, at the same time, several exceptional salons and lounges and 5 VIP cabins, guaranteeing maximum comfort for the 10 people who will get to stay overnight on board.
In parallel, the range also wants to raise the bar in the game, offering as much as 2,000 nautical miles of cruising range… In short, Extra seeks, with the new X96, the semi-definitive platform for star cruising.
Extra X96 Triplex
Three distinct decks, outdoor areas in abundance and as many convivial spaces indoors, with different options of choice regarding what to enjoy, already say a lot.
Two different lounges on two decks, in fact, offer ample indoor space, mirrored by an additional four outdoor areas, complete with every comfort.
All, derived from a study and design that look to offer a feeling in direct contact with the sea, overlooking it in every way, thanks to terraces, huge windows and abundant open-air.
By design, the new 96-footer should hold all the cards, but as we await the Cannes Boat Show (open Sept. 10-15) let’s preview it to understand it better.
Exterior
The glance is no small matter, especially when dealing with a not inconsiderable bulk.
Over 28 meters in length, in fact, is no small thing, especially when towering over three decks.
Here, design, becomes even more crucial and, “lighten up,” becomes the key word.
Operation that the design team behind the X96, Palumbo Superyachts, seeks in the design of the volumes and the details that cut and draw them, with the windows playing a pivotal role.
Uninterrupted, these in fact highlight a game of contrasts between surfaces precisely aimed at “breaking” the main volume, creating a discourse between the white and light volumes of the fiberglass with the dark cuts of the windows.
A “game” that also follows more pragmatic functions, giving light and momentum to each cabin and salon, immersing the interior spaces in the sea and the surrounding panorama. But it’s not just the glass that projects out to sea.
Not on the X 96 certainly.
Starting at the stern, in fact, a large hydraulic dashboard creates a beach area facing the main deck cockpit, creating a first lounge area in direct contact with the water.
From here, well-protected walkways flank the salon, leading inside, however, instead of to the outside forward lounge, located on the upper deck and equipped with huge sundecks and the hideaway for the tender, complete with crane. It is on the second deck, thus, that a second cockpit, or rather, a cantilevered terrace overlooking the sea and the stern, accessible both from the lower cockpit and from the large hall it overlooks, takes place.
Here, necessarily, all the appropriate furnishings find their place, definable with the development team to accommodate every shipowning need. Crowning the exterior volumes, with no wheelhouse and entirely dedicated to outdoor relaxation, is the flybridge, icing on the cake and complete with lounge areas, sofas and wet-bar.
A terrace, no less, surrounded by the sea in 360 degrees.
Extra X96 Triplex – Interior
On three different levels, inevitably, there is no shortage of space dedicated to sleeping, just as there is no shortage of lounges to enjoy the interior as much as the exterior.
And the design of the X96 well emphasizes the available volumes, offering first of all two distinct lounges, one on each deck.
Thus, on the upper deck, a dining room with terrace inhabits the volumes, which are also shared, but separately, with the galley and bridge deck.
The salon on the third
deck Descending instead to the main deck comes to life the grand salon, complete with every element intended for relaxation and overlooking the cockpit and beach area.
A second galley then occupies the central portion of the deck, with the bow, on the other hand, reserved entirely for the large master cabin, a full-beam double complete with walk-in closet, dressing room, seating area and private toilet. Four additional guest cabins are then located on the lower deck, two doubles and two twin singles, each with a private toilet.
The foredeck, on the other hand, is reserved for the crew, where, in addition to a small private lounge, there are three cabins, one double and two twin bunk cabins, each with private toilet.
Motorization and performance
Created with long cruising in mind, the Extra X96 Triplex well demonstrates this when one looks at its engine room.
Triple Volvo Penta IPS 1350s of 1,000 horsepower each are indeed the yard’s choice to propel its 238 Gross Tonn (135 displacement tons), taking it to peaks of 17.5 knots at full load and cruising speeds of 12.
It is at 10 knots, however, that the X96’s range is at its best: 2,000 nautical miles thanks to its 15,000-liter fuel tank.
