Livorno entrepreneur Marco Tuccoli, a name known to generations of fishermen and boaters, has left us. The son of Ivano Tuccoli, the founder of the shipyard of the same name, Marco was the family company’s quantum leap forward, taking its boats beyond the borders of Tuscany until his surname became synonymous with the quality Italian fishing boat.

The story of Marco Tuccoli

In the postwar period, Ivano Tuccoli, a shipwright, began building wooden boats in a basement that overlooked the ditches of Livorno, a seaside town that has inland canals below street level. The very first boats could only be gozzi, commissioned by the local Nautical Institute, later to serve rowing and fishing clubs.

But the real turning point came precisely when, in the 1970s, his son Marco, a very young man, took the reins of the shipyard, and transformed “Costruzioni Nautiche Tuccoli” into “Cantiere Navale Tuccoli,” moving its headquarters to its current location in Collesalvetti, just outside Livorno. The great insight is to switch to fiberglass, not yet so widespread, which allowed him to expand the range, bringing a new concept to Italy.

Boats were born with a strongly American style, but with a hull adapted to Mediterranean sailing. In a constant balance between innovation and tradition, the high prow in relation to the stern sickle remains to this day the family feeling present on all Tuccoli boats.

The legacy of Marco Tuccoli

Paolo Sanguettola, sole director, and Marcello Gherbin, partner and sales manager, remember him as “a human and professional reference point, whose passion, commitment and vision contributed greatly to the development of the shipyard until his retirement” just last year.

Marco led the family business for decades, making a decisive contribution to transforming Tuccoli into one of the leading names in Italian boatbuilding in the fisherman segment, building boats recognized for solidity, reliability and attention to detail, values that still represent the brand’s identity today. The entire Tuccoli Marine team would like to remember Marco for the contribution his work has left to the generations of fishermen and enthusiasts who, over time, have sailed aboard the boats born from his vision.
