The superyacht season is now in full swing, or rather Benetti‘s “gigayacht”, all “made in Italy”. The last one to touch the sea, last week, was the FB272, a steel yacht of about 100 meters with aluminum superstructure, built according to the guidelines of the owner on the boat. A luxury yacht in grand style, built by Burgess Technical Services team, a highly qualified and dedicated technical and project management team that brought the experience and technical know-how on this type of boat for the realization of the project. The FB272 has a length of about 100 meters and a width of 17 meters for a displacement of more than 5,500 GT. The yacht is equipped with an innovative hybrid propulsion system with diesel-electric engines and two Azipods engines connected to a special battery pack designed and supplied by the owner for navigation in a total absence of vibration in absolute silence.

On board 500 km of cables

The development of the exterior design was carried out with Hugo van Wieringen of Azure Naval Architects and with Reymond Langton Design and Zaniz Jakubowski of Zaniz Interiors. Giorgio Cassetta, from Benetti, then gave his support to Zaniz Interiors, who took on responsibility for both the exterior and the interior design of the yacht. It is equipped with a Lutron home automation system – about 500 kilometers of cables that run through the hull and superstructure. A massive yacht with large windows, 3 meters high, which allow a large amount of light to enter, thanks to an area of 800 square meters of glass.

The generation/propulsion package is obtained from 6 generators of about 1,000 KW each. The electrical energy produced by these generators is electronically managed, through a sophisticated fully integrated power management system, to power the consumption of onboard services and electric motors of two Azipods of 2,200 KW each. The reserve electricity is also used to charge 35 tons of batteries that can run the yacht for 12 hours without an engine running. This propulsion package is now the state of the art of technology, created by leading companies such as Caterpillar, Seastema, ABB, under the coordination of Benetti’s Technical Office. The advantage of this system is vibration-free navigation in total silence: with such a stable and silent cruise, guests could hardly realize they are traveling.

FB272, the design of this superyacht

The FB272’s external lines, which include six bridges, were created by the owner, Reymond Langton Design and Zaniz Jakubowski and further developed by Benetti in a feasible 3D model. A straight bow offers good seaworthiness, while the large deck area at the bow offers guests a good vantage point from which to start cruising and relaxing. The main deck offers additionally sheltered and shaded dining and social spaces. Above it is the wheelhouse and above it is a private bridge leading to the helicopter apron with a refueling/de-fueling station. High glass bands wrap around the main decks, with the hull characterized by a long horizontal strip of glass from mid-ship to stern. The windows of the upper decks are entirely uninterrupted by the structure, giving each deck a floating appearance. The interior design of the guest and crew areas was conceived and developed by Zaniz Jakubowski of Zaniz Interiors. It also provided its unique artistic expertise in the design of luxury yachts to develop the furniture
