At the Düsseldorf Boat Show, FIM, Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi, announced a preview of the shipyard’s future flagship: the Contessa 640, a 64-foot flybridge yacht that caught the attention of insiders for interesting design solutions.

FIM 640 Contessa

Measuring 19.60 meters long by 5.22 meters wide, this yacht, designed by the Design aLot team, formerly chief designer for Riva and Sanlorenzo from 2005 to 2020, is recognizable by fluid, dynamic lines, with a sleek profile that is not in the least weighed down by the flybridge. The bow is designed by simple, clean lines that define the sunpad on the deckhouse by framing it in walkaround passages. The very streamlined windshield connects to the flybridge behind a louvered opening to manage the amount of light inside. For that matter, lighting, is another key design feature of this FIM 640 Contessa: the superstructure is striking in that the mullions, both front and rear, are reduced to the bone, leaving the entire surface to brightly lit glazing.

Flybridge, a key element of the range

In this case, perhaps it is better to call it sportbridge. And they are not only because of the lack of covers, but also because of a configuration that, in spite of an IPS engine that is certainly not devoted to the pursuit of performance, evokes sportiness and fun. The key point is the command post, collected and simple, with the seat, instrumentation and helm, but arranged amidships, with no additional frills or seating for the co-pilot. A manifesto of the pleasure of conducting independent sailing.

Revolutionary interiors

But the real surprise at the presentation of this boat were the renderings of the interior. Designed by Designworks, BMW’s design team, they recall so much of the automotive world. Everything from the colors to the curved lines that follow one another seamlessly, from the sophisticated lighting to the volumes that seem to float, is in the service of ergonomics and a light, futuristic visual experience.
