Four Winns TH36 - From the Top
Four

WinnsTH36In 2023, American Four Winns had brought us a catamaran ideal for weekend getaways, very spacious on deck and capable of sleeping four between two master cabins.
Now, however, with Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group‘s signature accomplice, the Four Winns TH36 gets a makeover, below the waterline!
But mind you, these are not new waterlines; rather, it is “simply,” the addition of a foil system.
Already 600/700 horsepower strong , will we then see a catamaran that flies?
No, because the idea is not to make it a super sporty, rather, it wants to be even more comfortable than it was and more modest in fuel consumption. Here’s how.

Four Winns TH36 Foil

Forget America’s Cup-style footed foils or C-wing solutions as in the E1 Series.
In fact, the new Four Winns TH36 Foil sees two simple foils perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the hulls, nothing super high-tech, but no less efficient.
With the implementation of the two foils, in fact, what results is a substantial lift of the two hulls that, effectively, acts as an upward thrust, keeping the aft lower part of the catamaran in the water, but reducing its hydrodynamic resistance by 25 percent, for no small results.

Four Winns TH36 Foil – Benefits

What are the advantages of such a solution?
Theoretically, it is quite simple, but let’s start with something tangible: the vertical thrust given by the foils essentially improves glide and reduces drag, that is, it decreases hydrodynamic resistance, lifting much of the hull surface that would otherwise be submerged.
The result is something as trivial as it is appreciable: the boat is faster and consumes less fuel.
Already an element in its favor.

But the solution does not stop there and offers an added advantage, because the TH36 is now even more comfortable when sailing, has smoother wave transitions and is more stable at high speeds.
A solution that, by reducing fuel consumption and improving comfort, seems to kill two birds with one stone.

An implementation that, on a hull already strong with well-thought-out sleeping areas, large bow-rider-style forward lounge (Four Winns, from Beneteau Groupe, is nevertheless an American yard and reflects its tradition) and large aft volumes, makes the design, already appreciated in its previous form, and now potentially even more improved, even more appealing.
