Not only boats and engines, at the Miami Boat Show we have mostly people. One in particular came from Italy to launch a new challenge. We are talking about Sergio Davì who with an 11-meter Nuova Jolly 38cc dinghy powered by two Suzuki DF350A outboards will sail 7,000 nautical miles (12964 km) between Sicily, the Balearic Islands, Spain, Portugal, France, the UK, Ireland, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, Canada, and the USA.
An inflatable boat among the ice, that of the Palermitan inflatable boatman who will challenge Mediterranean and Ocean on an inflatable boat, for an exceptional feat.
From Palermo to New York in an inflatable boat: here’s why.
Among the goals of the raid is to raise awareness of protecting the marine environment, with a focus on combating all forms of plastic pollution. Also participating in this purpose will be the

(Institute for the Study of AnthropogenicImpacts and Sustainability in the Marine Environment under the National Research Council), which will conduct specific research on the presence of microplastics in waters, both oceanic and Mediterranean.
Daví’s Suzuki’s are totally standard
The Suzuki DF350As that Davì will use, two 4-stroke, 4.4-liter V6 engines, are standard engines. No “chore” or modification to tackle the Atlantic Ocean and the 7,000 nautical miles of sailing. The Suzuki DF350As are the only ones with a counter-rotating twin propeller propulsion system, Suzuki Dual Prop. A technical feature that is designed to propel large hulls, such as the Nuova Jolly 38 CC, moreover at full load, a condition in which the Nautilus Explorer, the name of the dinghy, with all the gasoline and materials needed on board to tackle such a long raid. The efficiency of the system, which can better unload the thermal unit’s torque into the water, will help Davì optimize his RIB’s performance, making it easier to enter glide and manage power in all weather and sea conditions.
From Palermo to New York almost solo
Daví’s relationship with the sea and the ocean will largely be experienced alone. Except for a few “relays” that will be made for safety reasons, the protagonist of this venture intends to travel mostly solo.
In numbers, the Ice Rib Challenge will last by a total of about: 6,600 nautical miles, 75 days of sailing (including stopovers), 500/600 hours of sailing, 24/30 stopovers . .. and above all, a lot of courage! It will be possible to follow the undertaking real time through a tracking link, which will be activated and published close to the departure date from Palermo, and keep up to date through the CCM website and social pages.
