Imagine walking through the forest and suddenly finding yourself in front of–a fleet of fishing boats! It would be … rather strange, to put it with English phlegm.

And it is in England, in Bristol Leigh Woods (near Bristol) that this installation by Luke Jerram (incidentally the author of the photos) is located. The name of the work is “Withdrawn,” literally, “withdrawn.”

“With this work,” Jerram explains, “I wanted to draw attention to the inevitable decline of the fishing industry in southwest Britain: for so many years, unsustainable fishing practices have caused the ‘collapse’ of many fish species. With fewer fish in the sea, it does not make financial sense to use small fishing boats. And here they are, forgotten.”
