In the chronic shortage of berths in Italy, good news for boaters in Liguria and beyond. In Genoa, redevelopment work will start in 2024 in the area between Pegli and Prà in the city’s west promoted by Bagni Castelluccio Spa with a very ambitious project. Highlights include about 650 berths of which many(45 percent) are also reserved for boats, 7 berths for the disabled, and 54 transit berths.
Berths in Genoa: 650 berths at Castelluccio
Work will begin around October 2024. Thus, not much is known yet about prices, availability, and thus reservations, but it is clear that we will see a significant increase from now. The total number of berths that Marina di Castelluccio Spa will increase is about 180 over the current berths.
How Genoa’s new marina will be structured
- 647 total places, for sail and motor boats up to 14 meters
- 292 places dedicated to vessels up to 6 meters (45%)
- 7 berths will be handicapped accessible
- 54 berths will be allocated for transit.
The floor plan of the new berths
Being within the Prà port basin, PSA Genova Pra’ Terminal, the area is very protected. The new piers will have their longitudinal axis parallel to the direction of the prevailing winds.
There are actually two solutions to reach the open sea: one to the east, faster, passing in front of Pegli and one to the west, “longer” that runs parallel to the outer breakwater and opens in front of the Voltri neighborhood. Where will the berths be for transit boats ?
The identified area will be on a pier directly connected to land to limit travel time between land and boat. In addition to the waterfront part, there will also be a continuation of the promenade, a new driveway and as many as 250 car parking spaces so as to improve usability.

The services of the new marina
The dock will then house all those services necessary for a marina. They will be placed in the functional separation strip between vehicular/pedestrian traffic. Modular elements, on the other hand, will house toilets, showers, laundry and waste collection rooms. To the east, however, small storage rooms will be placed for those with berths.
Completing the area to the east bordering the natural area of the Awakening Rock, on the other hand, is a large public area equipped with commercial premises, a refreshment bar, a platform with bleachers, trees, and spaces for sitting or lying down.
Marina di Castelluccio: where it is
Marina di Castelluccio is in Genoa in the Ponente. The most convenient connection to the highway is the Genoa Pegli exit of the A10. The port area is of the Pra seawall and is adjacent to the Genoa airport.
