On-board home automation is one of Garmin’s workhorses. This was demonstrated by the acquisition of EmpirBus, a company specializing in home automation and remote control. EmpirBus itself developed Garmin Boat Switch, the company’s new control unit that retires physical pushbuttons and switches. Just having an ECHOMAPTM and GPSMAP series chartplotter is enough to enter the new era of on-board utility control and monitoring. Read more,

Garmin Boat Switch

With Garmin Boat Switch, the leading satellite navigation company is setting an ambitious goal. Making board control easier than ever before. How? This technology condenses traditional two-element electrical systems (fuse box and switches) and offers the user control over up to 20 output channels and 7 inputs.

What does it mean? Imagine having total control over the lights (dim, turn on, turn off), operate the horn or adjust the live tank pump with a stand-alone timer. This and more, managing it all from the plotter as well.

The inputs can also function to collect data on the boat’s battery voltage, bilge pump operation, and more. In short, a real breakthrough in simplifying the interface of on-board functions (monitoring/control of on-board functions).

At the same time, Garmin is focusing on integration with its chartplotters with a system that interfaces directly with the on-board system without the need for a dedicated web server.

Garmin Boat Switch: what you need to install it

The Garmin Boat Switch system can be installed without the need to purchase additional components thanks to the 45cm cables and wiring harnesses included in the package. In addition, Garmin focuses on ease of installation to integrate it with the boat’s electrical system in case of refitting. Once installed, a Switching page is automatically added to the chartplotter: users can then independently customize the buttons that will be shown on the display. The goal of Garmin Boat Switch? Making everything easy and clear right from installation. In this sense, the wiring of each channel is color-coded and conveniently labeled with the function of the channel.

How much does Garmin Boat Switch cost

Garmin Boat Switch is already available in 2022. The recommended retail price of €1,099, VAT included.
