We often talk about sustainability in boating and green solutions. Walking around the Genoa Boat Show, we set out to find some eco-friendly goodies for boaters, and among the many new products we saw, one immediately caught our attention. Called Pick&Drink, it is a water purifier, and is the latest product launched by Italian company Schenker Watermakers.
Schenker Pick & Drink
Drinking from the water tank in the boat? This is not always possible; on the contrary. Whether the water has just been loaded or already been on board for a while, it often brings with it bad smells and tastes. The same can be said of the water that passes through the desalinator, as it is not sterile and may contain bacteria that generate unpleasant tastes.
For this Schenker has designed a complete water purification kit that not only makes the water in the tank usable for both drinking and cooking, but also means that no plastic is carried on board, solving at least two problems: stowage and disposal of plastic. To be clear, with this new purifier you can use water with confidence that it is safe and without contraindications.
Schenker Pick&Drink: how it works
The system consists of a pair of filters already assembled ready to be mounted in the sink cabinet and a dispenser. Installation is simple, and the purifier takes advantage of the pressurized freshwater network on board without any need for a power supply.
At the technical level, the first filter consists of a “carbon block” that performs the task of removing impurities down to 5 microns, chlorine and other unwanted tastes and odors, while the second filter retains impurities down to 0.15 microns thus accomplishing the refined filtration of water and reducing any bacterial load by 99.99%.
Maintenance of the system is also very simple. Filter cartridges, once exhausted, are easily replaced thanks to a convenient bayonet connection system with safety catch. The company recommends only one precaution: replacing filters after a long period of inactivity. The list price is 390.00 Euro + vat.
