Goodyear enters luxury boating with Carbon 35, a 10-meter rib, unveiled today at the exceptional location of Duties in Milan, a stone’s throw from Castello Sforzesco. The watchword is cutting-edge, all-around technology.

Goodyear Carbon 35

The design is based on the G-Tender line, by Tender One, a Sardinian shipyard based in Porto Rotondo. From a layout point of view then, we find the tried-and-true configuration we have come to know with the Sardinian school, one of the most active in extreme rib. High and narrow bow enclosing a C-shaped settee, table convertible into sundeck, center console devoted to sportiness, and aft sundeck. Of course, filtered in Goodyear optics: dark tubulars, gray Alcantara cushions, exposed carbon hartop, all embellished with bright yellow details to emphasize the company’s colors and identity.

Carbon

As the name implies, carbon is one of the main elements of this project. We find it in the hardtop, finished with a special transparent treatment that gives it a very special 3D effect. But that’s not all: it was used, in the form of carbon yarn-an exclusive and patented product-also for the seats and cushions. This result was possible thanks to the partners of excellence involved in the project: Atelier Zanassi and Evolution Tech, leading companies in carbon processing, who brought their know-how directly from the automotive world, where these processes are much more studied.

Goodyear and Yamaha

That’s the point of Goodyear’s “descent into the field” in this area: developing technologies. One would think it would be natural for a tire industry to develop inflatables, but in fact the two worlds are completely separate. What prompted Goodyear to seek a partner to develop its line of inflatables is the opportunity to pave the way and invest in a new area, to develop new dedicated technologies. The whole study on these new applications of carbon is already an example of this. And when such a giant is the one to move, the opportunities are endless. The project immediately caught the attention of Yamaha, which will power Carbon 35 with a pair of its new top-of-the-line, 450 XTO. With these names, the future of Goodyear’s new line is all to be discovered, as models to complete the range up to 16 meters are already under consideration. For now, the next appointment is at the Genoa Boat Show, where we will see Carbon 35 in the water for the first time.
