We can only imagine the astonishment of the 24-year-old Frenchman who fell off a Club Med cruise ship off the island of Saba in the Caribbean when he saw that his rescuer was none other than…Leonardo Di Caprio.
It was last December 30. The Hollywood star was vacationing in St. Barths aboard his yacht with his girlfriend Camila Morrone. When the boat captain heard the SOS over the radio and reported it to Di Caprio, the actor did not think twice and changed course to go in search of the castaway-his was the only boat engaged in the search. Very difficult to find, the chances were “one in a billion” as the commander explained. Instead.
The unfortunate Frenchman had been at sea for 11 hours when he was rescued: he would certainly have met certain death if Di Caprio had not located him, because night was falling and a heavy storm was approaching. According to The Sun, the severely dehydrated man was a Club Med worker who “had drunk too much alcohol.” He was given food and water aboard the yacht before the coast guard attended to him for medical treatment.
Impossible not to notice the similarity to the 1997 film that anointed Di Caprio, Titanic, in which the actor as Jack rescued his Rose (Kate Winslet) from the icy waters of the Atlantic. From screen to reality. And bravo Leonardo!
