New in the world of multifunction displays: Simrad has unveiled the first ultrawide multifunction screen, that is, an ultra-wide screen. The advantages of the new NSX Ultrawide allow much more data to be displayed at the same time, taking advantage of the different screens available on the large Simrad screen.
Unveiled at the Düsseldorf 2024 boot, Simrad’s new NSX Ultrawide is, data in hand, 63 percent wider than the “classic” NSX. This means that on this chartplotter it is possible to have several screens in your eye at the same time, placing side by side, for example, the cartography, radar, and navigation data view. Or you can choose to add among the visible screens the camera (if there is one) or the menu for controlling the on-board music entertainment. This is the first time in the world that a brand has introduced an ultrawide aspect ratio display, but we are sure that we will soon see wider displays in other brands’ catalogs as well. This is because from smartphone displays (when they are horizontally oriented) to TV or computer monitors and even multifunctional displays in cars, we are increasingly accustomed to a very wide view, and even on boats it will be more natural to find this kind of interaction again.
The new product is available in 12- and 15-inch sizes, and is suitable for installation on any type of boat, from dinghies to cruisers to service boats for water sports, such as wakeboarding. Options include the ability to save favorite dashboards, with desired views, to have one-click settings on the chartplotter. What’s more, multiple NSX Ultrawide displays can be placed side by side, so that really all available screens can be under control at the same time, taking advantage of the full width of the displays.

Optimized for the new system are the X-Gen cartographies, which offer detailed views and some enhanced features, such as safety alerts for boats, buoys, and shallow water. C-MAP Discover X maps take advantage of the high definition of the new displays for better map resolution, and the Reveal X update allows for shaded relief and satellite imagery that is very useful for fishing.
