At METS Trade 2022 in Amsterdam, there is room for all kinds of novelties, and among them we have scouted out something about paints. From America comes
Hull Maxx
(also in Italy) and is a product that comes across as non-toxic, according to the company, and capable of improving boat performance as well.
Hull Maxx, the “eco” anti-vegetative.
The first strength of Hull Maxx lies in posing itself as an environmentally safe alternative to classic paints because it contains no harmful heavy metals or other toxic substances that can cause pollution. We are dealing with a nontoxic product that contains a silicone component and is highly hydrophobic. This structure is closely related to its main characteristics: not “mixing” well with water allows for less friction and thus higher performance and less fuel needed .
Its product chemistry, on the other hand, makes it difficult for algae and other vegetation to adhere, making it much easier to clean than traditional anti-vegetative products or uncoated hulls.
Hull Maxx: how it works
How does Hull Maxx work? A boat kept in the water needs regular maintenance. Cleaning this system is especially easy: no need to scrape or scrub hard. It goes without saying that the frequency of cleaning depends on water conditions and frequency of use. Because it is hydrophobic, the increased use of the craft promotes regular cleaning. However, the company provides all the details about how to maintain it, including at the tool level.
Hull Maxx: how long does it last
Another interesting fact is that, according to the tests, once applied to a boat that had been in the water for 22 months, there were no signs of failure. Here, too, it is the silicone component that ensures durability.
Application is also recommended, as it is transparent, an inch or two above the actual waterline of the hull to facilitate cleaning of areas exposed to water contact. Hull Maxx can also be applied to non-moving metals, such as engine mounts, flaps, and bathing and lifting platforms. It should not be used on unpainted aluminum, but can be used on painted or powder-coated aluminum.
