Sergio Davì aboardhis dinghySergioDavì is a sailor that motor boating enthusiasts will probably already know.
Many of his adventures have been reported on our channels, from the Palermo – Amsterdam in 2010 to the recent Palermo – Los Angeles, all – strictly – aboard a dinghy.
As he is preparing his next venture, which will be unveiled at the Genoa Boat Show in September, we thought we’d ask Sergio what’s behind his passion for boating and how to organize a10,000-mile adventure in the Atlantic.

Background on the adventures of Sergio Daví

In the interview-which you can find below-Sergio Davì tells us where his passion for the sea (with a very special“baptism“) and for boating (a family history), which he has always had and cultivated since he was a boy, comes from.
Despite several non-boating related jobs Sergio works as a skipper, and slowly the desire to measure himself with an adventure aboard his greatest passion grows in him: the dinghy.
https://youtu.be/rMSNualww_A?si=AEbX_5KS4FT3OWuD It was 2008 when he got it into his head that he wanted to try to go from Palermo to Amsterdam by sea, aboard a motor dinghy, and so he set in motion the machine that has led him today to dream of new adventures around the world.
In between-in addition to several “smaller” adventures such as the Lighthouse Tour-there are ventures such as the Palermo-New York and the Palermo-Los Angeles, always completed aboard his dinghy.

Locations, contingencies, and risk management

In addition to the organizational machinery behind Sergio Davì’s work, it takes a great deal of preparation to put to sea aboard a dinghy and travel certain distances.
Above all, it is about mental preparation, which allows Sergio not to panic and to handle risks and unforeseen events (such as the fire on board a few miles from Lanzarote that “breaks” the first oceanic attempt or the Covid taken during an adventure) with calm and responsiveness.

After all, the dinghies used by Sergio are put to the test, and represented an important“stress test” for all sponsors and their products, from the manufacturers of the engines and electronics to those who supply the boat.
While waiting to find out – at the Genoa Boat Show in less than two months – what the next adventure will be, enjoy our interview on the Barche a Motore YouTube channel!
