The times when we need the anchor windlass in the boat are always tense times, in every sense of the word. There is an Italian company, MZ Electronic, that has made winches one of its workhorses, investing in both research and development. How to stay relaxed when we are mooring, when it is the winches that are “loading the whole boat on our shoulders”?
Knowing that the ones we have on board are built and certified by major naval bodies such as RINA, Bureau Veritas, ABS, Lloyd’s Register, such as those of Italwinch, a brand of MZ Electronic, of which Orvea and Officina Navale Nanni of Viareggio are also part. Are there limits to the Italwinch range? Yes, but few. Whether you have a small boat a superyacht, you are in the right place. In fact, the range is from 6 meters up to 90 meters.
We said there are winches for all tastes and boats. Against this backdrop, NV-16 and NV-19 represent the newest additions among Italwinch products, for a range of boats from 25 to 55 meters. Made entirely of AISI 316 stainless steel, they are characterized by great strength and reliability. As we said before, they are, in fact, certified by naval bodies such as RINA, Bureau Veritas, ABS and Lloyd’s Register.
Both are designed for “heavy duty” applications, that is, to work under very intense stresses and strains. They have oversized brake bands, high-efficiency planetary gearboxes, and engaging clutches. They can have motorization up to 400V three-phase or hydraulic.
NV 16 is a vertical axis winch made of AISI 316 stainless steel. It is available in both electric and hydraulic versions. This model is recommended for boats up to about 42 meters. It can support chains from 12mm to reaches up to 16mm with a sleeper. Electromagnetic brake and clutch tooth engagement are standard.
The other novelty is the vertical axis winches models NV-19, totally made of AISI 316 stainless steel and are suggested for boats up to 55 meters. This model can use chains up to 19 mm with a sleeper and supports kenter links. Different 230V, 400V or hydraulic motors are possible.
