4 TYPES OF INFLATABLE BOATS FOR EVERY PURPOSE
4 TYPES OF INFLATABLE BOATS FOR EVERY PURPOSE

Summer brings with it the age-old dilemma between those who love boats and those who love inflatable boats. What are they like? How do they handle? But above all, what advantages do they offer? Because an inflatable boat isn’t just “the tender”—it’s so much more. And there’s practically one for every use. Here are the four main uses.

HOW TO TEND

It’s the most classic option, but it shouldn’t be underestimated. The inflatable boat is the best companion for anyone setting out on a cruise, and choosing the right one will help us enjoy our vacation to the fullest. Depending on the type of boat you have and the kind of sailing you plan to do, there are different types of tenders. The most basic are those with inflatable hulls, ideal for those with limited space who need a lightweight, easy-to-haul-out boat. For those looking for a more high-performance and agile boat, however, a rigid-hulled tender is the best choice. Be sure to choose the right motor. Today, electric outboard motors are popular for small tenders—they’re lightweight and easy to manage in terms of fuel consumption.

FOR THE DAY

From small to maxi-RIB, there’s something for everyone. This is the most popular type of inflatable boat and takes advantage of the “walkaround” qualities of these vessels, offering plenty of space on board and the speed of these boats. Perfect for spending a day on the water, fiberglass boats of the same size can accommodate more guests. The tubes, touching the water, improve stability when at anchor, reducing rolling. Outboard engines are almost always used for boats under 10 meters, while above that, some still appreciate the “integral” stern platform.

FOR FISHING

The inflatable boat was originally designed as a workboat—fast, stable, agile, and lightweight. Sport fishing requires exactly that: getting the job done. Modern inflatable boats for anglers are lethal fishing machines equipped with everything you could possibly need, offering the advantages of speed and low fuel consumption typical of inflatables. Then there’s the layout of the RIBs themselves: aside from the central console, you can move around practically anywhere without any obstructions.
In addition, there’s the issue of stability, which shouldn’t be underestimated during catches. But aren’t the hooks and gear likely to puncture them? True, but fishing inflatables use heavier fabric on the tubes, with rubber reinforcements over the tubes where the fish are hauled in.

FOR THE CRUISE

Once upon a time, there was nautical “camping.” All you needed was a small dinghy and a tent to set off on an adventure. For some, that’s still the case, but for those seeking greater comfort, cabin-style RIBs have evolved significantly. Obviously, we’re not talking about “long-range” cruisers, but rather weekenders with cabins and space below deck for two couples, without sacrificing the “sporty” characteristics of RIBs. Maxi-RIBs often have these features, as they appeal to motoryacht owners who want a craft they can steer themselves, yet still offer good living space.
