Jet Capsule: the “spacecraft” is actually a 38-knot Italian boat

The sailing spacecraft is an all-Italian project and it is a reality. It measures 8.15 meters long, 3.44 meters wide, and is called the Hyper-Sport Jet Capsule. It is a design by Pierpaolo Lazzarini of the Italian firm Lazzarini Design Studio and it is something that has yet to be seen sailing. As can be guessed from the pictures, the design of the craft is inspired by space shuttles, with light clusters that recall those of cars (the most futuristic ones) also placed on the top of the craft. On the side we find two very large windows that can be made of photochromic glass that becomes darker in direct sunlight and under its UV rays to provide privacy for the occupants.

You board the Jet Capsule Hyper-Sport via the aft swim platform, while accessing the interior through a carbon-fiber hatch that weighs just 12 kilograms and opens to the right. Upon entering theapproximately 18-square-meter area, one finds, immediately on the port side, a cabinet that contains the refrigerator and is topped by a sink and induction stove (optional).

Specularly to starboard is a dedicated bathroom room, with optional toilet and shower. The “salon” consists of twin side sofas leaning against the bulwarks, each seating four people, and the fold-down table (optional). If the table is chosen, a center bed can be made by sliding the cushions of the two sofas apart. On-board entertainment is provided by the presence of four speakers carved out under the sofas (two more are in the forward area), while comfort is ensured by the presence of an air-conditioning system.

The empty displacement is 3 1/2 tons while the fuel tank can hold 550 liters of fuel. The boat can accommodate up to 10 passengers, and an optional sundeck can be placed on the outer canopy. The steering area is at the far bow, with a center pilot seat and two side passenger seats. The “space” console contains the multifunction display, all useful elements in navigation, and controls for on-board utilities. There is also a button to electrically open the center windshield-glass and access the front bollard for easy mooring and unmooring. The Jet Capsule Hyper-Sport is powered by a jet thruster capable of propelling the boat to a speed of 38 knots. The price is not stated but the Lazzarini Design Studio website says it is on sale starting at 550,000 euros.
