Kadey-Krogen Yachts, a renowned shipyard of long-cruising trawlers, presents its largest build of its 49 years in the industry at the Palm Beach International Boat Show.

Founded by Art Kadey and Jim Krogen in 1976, in its operation Kadey-Krogen Yachts has built more than 660 yachts. In 2019, the company also introduced the Summit series, with a planing hull designed by renowned naval architect Michael Peters.

Krogen 60 Open is designed to be a benchmark for long-range cruising. The design, which is entirely overseen by the company’s in-house resources, has efficiency, ease of operation and customization as its benchmarks. In perfect consistency with what Tucker West, president of the Kadey-Krogen Group, says are the brand’s hallmarks: comfort, timeless design and ocean capabilities.

Built on Kadey-Krogen’s proprietary Pure Full Displacement (purely displacement) hull, the new model is an offshore trawler truly built for cruising, featuring large volume spaces, premium materials and the craftsmanship that distinguishes the shipyard.

Interiors

Krogen 60 Open builds on the success of her smaller sister 50 Open, re-presenting the same openspace concept on the main deck, seamlessly joining the salon and galley area with the wheelhouse. The latter is particularly large, rich in instrumentation, much of it also in an analog version, to have maximum redundancy, testifying to the utmost search for reliability. A day bath can also be added to enhance hospitality while cruising.

Below deck, the full-beam master suite, with its own private bathroom, is positioned amidships to take advantage of the nearly 6-meter width. Several interior layout options are possible, including a three-cabin layout that also includes a convertible office area, while the crew is housed aft of the engine room.

A boatload of substance

Everything is set up for accessibility and ease of maintenance. The spacious, full-height engine room houses the two John Deere 4045 diesel inboards of 200 hp each, which, thanks to their efficiency and nearly 7000 l tank, offer transoceanic range.

Speed Consumption [l/nm] Autonomy
6 knots 1,27 5367 miles
7 knots 1,70 4005 miles
8 knots 3,02 2254 miles
9 knots 3,87 1760 miles

Reliability and safety are at the heart of the design of a boat made for long cruises through the use of proven technologies. The Krogen 60 Open benefits from maximum attention to weight distribution and reduction while maximizing strength. Hull construction includes the use of fiberglass with closed-cell PVC sandwich core at the top and aramid fiber reinforcements below the waterline.
