After presenting the sail-poweredEIGHTY 2 in Cannes, Lagoon is doing the encore with EIGHTY 3, which takes its hull and declines it in a motor version. EIGHTY 3, a 24-meter catamaran overall, will be the new flagship of the shipyard part of the Beneteau Group, confirming Lagoon as a benchmark in the industry.
Lagoon EIGHTY 3
Sailing equipment aside, the exterior design, overseen by Patrick le Quément, former director of the Renault Style Center until 2009, follows that already seen on EIGHTY 2. Sides drawn by clean lines, punctuated by rectangular windows that follow one another like morse code along the entire length.
The large size allows for endless outdoor spaces, both aft and forward, connected not only by the central passageway through the saloon but also by the two walkways, which are very wide thanks to a beam of as much as 11 meters. These passages are not left unused, but are exploited to place a series of skylights that illuminate the cabins in the two hulls.
Boundless spaces
The aft cockpit is entirely sheltered by the flybridge, which is 50 m² wide and can be configured to the owner’s liking. On the flybridge and hardtop unfailing photovoltaic panels, which, combined with the lithium battery pack, allow optimizing the use of energy on board.
The aft bathing platform, which can be adjusted to three levels, is particular: submerged for hauling tenders or jet skis, at beach level, or raised to cockpit level to extend the cockpit and become a 22 sq. m. sea terrace.
Interiors
The interior design was supervised by the prestigious Nauta studio. The main salon is a large open space offering a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view. Fully configurable, in the standard version we find, in addition to the command station, kitchen, dining area with marble table and living room.
Below deck, the master suite occupies more than half of the starboard hull, with a king-size bed, walk-in closet, study and a large bathroom. Three more cabins, each with private bath and the service area with galley and crew quarters on the port side complete the configuration. Of course, the layout is customizable and can be increased to accommodate up to 16 people in six cabins.
Lagoon EIGHTY 3. An increasingly sustainable yacht
In addition to the characteristic energy efficiency typical of catamarans, which have large areas in which to house photovoltaic panels and low fuel consumption when cruising (EIGHTY 3 reaches 3,500 nm range with 8,500 l of fuel – 2.43 l/nm), Lagoon has achieved an important sustainability milestone in the construction of the boat itself.
Lagoon has begun using, for both the hull and non-structural parts, a resin composed of 45 percent bio-based and recycled materials that, in contrast to classical resins composed of 100 percent petroleum derivatives, achieves a 50 percent reduction in carbon emissions. This innovation is one of Beneteau Group’s many areas of research to reduce carbon emissions by 30 percent by 2030.
