Leen 56, the motor trimaran. Leen Trimarans, a brand of Neel Trimarans specializing in the design and construction of motor trimarans, has been born. As of now, the Leen range includes two models, Leen 56 and Leen 72.
Leen 56, trimaran as boat: how to use and advantages
Until very recently, even a catamaran was looked upon with suspicion. Today, the multihull boom, on the other hand, is there for all to see (here we explain why). What about the trimaran? If you dream of sailing around the world, trimarans should certainly be considered. It is not the boat you go swimming in the bay with and then go home. The trimaran is designed and built to take on oceans and conditions that many normal boats could not cope with.
- How is it motorized? Leen trimarans consist of a central heat engine and 2 electric side pods (under the hulls). Diesel is the main engine. The two electric motors are coupled to the diesel engine when maneuvering in port (thus replacing the bow thruster).
- Is it stable? Because of the way it is constructed, precisely with a center hull plus the two side hulls, it is more stable than a monohull and than a catamaran.
- Is it manageable? The motorization with which it is offered, combined with a bow thruster, makes it maneuverable. The work is simplified then by the joysticks with which today’s boats are equipped.
- Does it consume a lot? Since it was born as a globetrotting boat a special focus has been on consumption. There is room on board to install solar panels and other instrumentation to enable greater autonomy. In terms of fuel consumption at a cruising speed of 12 knots, a Leen trimaran consumes less than 2 liters per nautical mile.
Leen 56, 17-meter motor trimaran
The main deck features a large kitchen, dining area, and master stateroom. The master cabin occupies the entire starboard side of the trimaran. The bathroom with shower and separate toilet is reached by descending a few steps to the lower level of the hull. The fully glazed salon wheelhouse is located at the front of the boat. The wheelhouse arrangement allows a large corner sofa, a large TV screen, and a dedicated space for navigation to be combined. The wheelhouse can accommodate two people. External access via a door facilitates entry and exit for mooring maneuvers.
Below deck
The standard layout includes 3 double cabins with shower rooms. The other two double cabins are located in the middle and port hulls. The Leen 56 can be equipped with additional single-bed cabins and separate showers. In the 6-cabin layout, the Leen 56 can accommodate up to 10 passengers. The furniture is designed in light wood and made by quality cabinetmakers. The layout and furnishings of the outdoor areas (cockpit and flybridge) are chosen by the owner.
Flybridge
Above a flybridge with a second wheelhouse, space for sundeck and an “L” shaped sofa. At the stern a tender.
